Kathleen is also a retired K-9 handler. She co-owned and worked for years with Sherlock Hounds Detection Canines, a private narcotics K-9 detection company. She likes to use her experience to craft realism into her made up stories, which includes details from her dog-handling experience.

On top of working with dogs, Kathleen also trained horses. She enjoys spending quality time with her own mare. She also loves the mountains and their beauty, a love that came from growing up in Colorado and exploring the wilderness there. It also inspired her choice of setting for her series, National Forest K-9.

Kathleen attended Colorado State University, where she graduated with a B.A. in journalism. She has written for The Berthoud Weekly Surveyor, where she was able to win a Colorado Press Award. Her books have won or have been finalists for many different awards. These include book of the year for the PenCraft Award, the Silver Falchions and the Colorado Authors league.

Kathleen is married and lives near the foothills of Colorado along with her husband and their dogs.
