Luca Veste is a popular English novelist, who likes to write thriller, crime, and horror novels. He is particularly well known for writing the DI Murphy and DS Rossi book series. Author Veste is the writer of Scouse, Italian, and Liverpudlian heritage. He is happily married and lives along with his beloved wife and couple of young daughters. Author Veste is one among the 9 children of his parents. He completed his graduation in criminology and psychology from the Liverpool University. The Murphy and Rossi novel series helped him become a prominent author. The books of this series became tremendously successful and allowed him the chance to be included in the list of well established authors. Veste’s books are partly police procedurals and partly psychological thrillers. They follow the pairing of the detectives Laura Rossi and David Murphy. Laura is depicted as a Detective Sergeant, while David is a Detective Inspector. All of Veste’s novels take place in Liverpool and bring the city alive in a terrifying and dark manner. The books also depict elements of the Scouse humor. Author Veste receives a great inspiration to write his books from the popular works of the prominent authors like Helen FitzGerald, Mo Hayder, Michael Marshall Smith, Mark Billingham, Neil White, Steve Mosby, Will Carver, Val McDermid, John Connolly, Zoran Drvenkar, etc. Besides writing his life-changing book series, author Veste has also served as the editor of the charity anthology called Off The Record, which was nominated for the Spinetingler Award.

Veste has even been the co-editor of True Brit Grit. This is also a short stories’ charity anthology. In addition to being a writer, Veste has worked as a civil servant, singer, guitarist, and actor. Even though he has left all his former professions, he tends to take them up again every now and then. Now, Veste serves as a writer on the full time basis. In his novel series, author Veste has described both the sides of the contrasting city and has explored the changing landscape of the city of Liverpool. He has even described the bad things that keep happening in this city quite often. When author Veste used to work as an actor, he had made appearances as a background artist on several episodes of the Brookside and Hollyoaks. On one occasion, Veste had spent 3 continuous nights wearing a black leather mini skirt with high heels. He was witnessed by the ever dwindling viewers on all the three nights in one of the theaters in Liverpool. Author Veste’s stories are often described as artfully constructed, astringent, darkly impressive, intelligent, disturbing, page turner, etc. Author Steve Mosby has said that Veste’s writing is chilling, unpredictable, gripping, impossible to let go, and genuinely shocking. He liked his debut book, Dead Gone, very much. Clare Mackintosh has praised author Veste by saying the his books have gritty and twisty settings, which make them even more intriguing to read. Numerous other critics and fellow authors such as Chris Ewan, Eva Dolan, Mel Sherratt, Stav Sherez, etc., have said that Veste’s style of writing stories is quite unique, darkly playful, terrifying, tense, original, and fresh. Veste’s novels are included in the list of favorite police procedural by the fans of this genre.

The DI Murphy and DS Rossi series written by Luca Veste is comprised of 4 novels and 1 novella in total, which were released between the years 2013 and 2016. Each of the books of this series feature the lead characters in the role of DI David Murphy and DS Laura Rossi. Laura is first seen as a detective constable and then goes on to become a detective sergeant as the series progresses. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘Dead Gone’. It was released in the year 2013 by the Avon publication. Author Veste has mentioned the primary characters in this book as Rob Barker, Laura Rossi, and David Murphy. At the start of the story of the book, it is shown that Laura and David work on the investigation of the murder case in which a Liverpool City University student was killed. The detectives find a letter attached to the body of the victim that the killer has written for them to find. The letter gives the description of a popular unethical & psychological experiment that the killer performed on the woman’s body, which killed her eventually. At first, the detectives are convinced that the murderer is someone very close to the victim. Also, it appears that the killer knew the victim very well. Murphy thinks that the letter is just a gimmick used by the brutal murderer to diverge their mind and put them off track. However, when a few more bodies are discovered from different places of the city, each attached with a separate letter, Murphy agrees that it is the mode of operation of the killer. On the other hand, Rob Barker, who works at the university as an admin, deals with the loss of his own. He tells the investigators that his partner disappeared one year ago and has not been found since then. To add to his problems, everyone who knew the woman suspect that Rob has a hand in her disappearance. Soon, the two events collide and make Murphy realize that he is chasing a murderer unlike any other he has faced before. This new killer is known to commit the murders in order to discover more information about life and living.

Another mind blowing book written in the series is called ‘Bloodstream’. The Simon & Schsuter released it in 2015. The story features the main characters as Joe Hooper and Chloe Morrison apart from the detectives Rossi and Murphy. At the beginning of the book’s story, it is depicted that Chloe and Joe are the popular stars of reality TV and social media. They seemed to have achieved a lot in their careers, until they are found dead. It is learned that their high profile agent had received a strange phone call on the day of their murder. The detectives found Joe and Chloe tied to chairs and their faces towards each other. A media scrum descends on Liverpool after the news of the violent deaths of the stars becomes public. Once again, detectives Laura and David are assigned to investigate the case. Initially, Murphy seems dismissive. But, the pressure intensifies when one more couple is found dead in the same manner. This time, the killer has dropped a message. There is a link to an internet video in the message. It becomes quite clear that the killer has planned to kill more people. Now, the detectives need to run against time and catch the dangerous murderer before anyone else is killed.
