Lucy Connelly is an author of cozy mysteries.
She loves to travel the world, and usually takes along her bossy dog with you. Her favorite thing to do is to go to a quaint cafe and sip some tea, turning every person that passes by into a suspect, murder victim, or witness in her mind.
If Lucy is staring at you in a strange way, you shouldn’t worry. She only would have murdered you in a book.
Even though she loves to travel, her favorite place in the world to be is home with her dogs and family. She is always down to have an adventure and is constantly looking around for that inspiration. She earned a Master’s degree in the humanities, loves learning, and has also been published using other names.
Lucy Connelly is actually the pseudonym used by Candace Havens. She has won awards for her writing and has written over thirty books. She has contributed to various anthologies and has authored the biography “Joss Whedon: The Genius Behind Buffy”.
An American in Scotland is the first book in the Scottish Isle Mystery series by Lucy Connelly. If you love a good cozy mystery, then this story is for you!
Sea Isle, Scotland is a small town that has a lot going for it. But as wonderful as this idyllic place may appear, it also has some secrets at the heart of it. Dr. Emilia McRoy wants to uncover as many of these secrets as she can, and she doesn’t care what the diagnosis is.
Dr. Emilia McRoy always hoped that Sea Isle would provide her with a fresh start. She’s always dreamed of being able to begin again. She is now far from that ER in Seattle, and she thought that she could settle down and start a new book in her life. In her head, she thought that she could be that small town doctor and administer to all of the welcoming and unique residents there.
When the doctor finds a dead body, she begins to think that the drama and the intrigue may not have left her as much as she hoped. Emilia starts to find out that there are larger issues that she has to contend with. She’s going to have to work with Laird Ewan Campbell, the local constable. That’s not going to be that much fun because she doesn’t really see him as a helpful force by her side.
Then she finds out that she also has the special duty of being the coroner for the very same corpse that she found. Then the body disappears before the autopsy can be done, and she has to somehow convince all of the townspeople that a crime was committed.
The more that she looks into things in this town, the more she gets suspicious. Then she starts dealing with issues with her sleep. She knows that the reasons she is not getting sleep is because of the threatening letters that she’s receiving, the list of suspects growing longer, and a guest to her house at night who breaks in.
However, Dr. Emilia has no history of backing down and isn’t going to start now. There’s someone out there who has no desire for this doctor to treat Sea Isle. Can Emilia track down a killer before they are able to strike again? Or will this idyllic town find out that they are now subject to the whims of a serial killer? Read this mystery from Lucy Connelly to find out!
Death at a Scottish Wedding is the second book in the Scottish Isle Mystery series by Lucy Connelly. If you love mystery stories or just read the first book in the series and loved it, then give this story a try!
Emilia McRoy is really happy with her relocation to Scotland and is feeling like Sea Isle is starting to be her home. The American doctor is even happier when she is extended an invitation to Morrigan’s Castle to attend a wedding.
The friends in her life have told her that it’s going to be essentially a party that goes on for three days and things might get chaotic. There’s always a snowstorm coming in. Constable Ewan Campbell owns the castle and tells everyone they’ll be safe from the blizzard.
There’s no way that he could have known that not all of his guests would make it through the night. Emilia is exploring all through the castle when what should she find in a turret but a dead man? There’s no mistaking that absence of life, and things just got complicated for everyone there still living.
When the huge snow storm come at last, it quickly ensures that travel is impossible. No one will be able to get to the castle until things are less intense, and that includes the local police. Now that none of the guests can leave either, the family thinks that the best thing to do is to keep going on with the wedding as though nothing has changed.
Emilia is also the coroner here, so this makes things complex. While everyone’s in one location, which makes things easier to track, the killer also has their eyes on Emilia. No one knows the victim apparently, or at least they are not stepping forward to say so. That’s only making Emilia’s task at hand more difficult.
No one has any idea why someone no one knows would be killed at some random castle. Who could have possibly had the motive to do so? No one is quite sure, and that includes Emilia.
Can she get to the bottom of this mystery and find out who is the true victim, and make sure that a killer is not on the loose and instead is brought to justice? Will she be able to prevent the person responsible from taking her out before it is too late, or is this a case that she simply is destined not to solve? Read this thriller from Lucy Connelly all the way to the end to find out!
