M.A. Knights is a published English writer and a member of Booktok (book-focused content on the app TikTok).
He acquired a Bachelors of Science in the field of countryside conversation and went on to achieve a Masters of Science in the field of geographic information and climate change. Upon having done so, he ended up realizing that he is not in fact a scientist at all. He has since decided to leave the data crunching to those who he considers to be more clever than himself and has instead gone back to the fantastic imaginings of his youth. Knights relates that he hopes to one day lose himself in a world of his own creation.
On his own, Knights has come up with a love for all things that have to do with being farcical and absurd. He is constantly inspired by the work of other authors, such as P.G. Wodehouse, Terry Pratchett, Jasper Fforde and Tom Holt. He revels in the creation of fantastical worlds that he says are full of unusual, improbable beasts as well as characters who are eccentric and larger than life.
The Pig in the Derby Hat is the first book in the Trussel and Gout series by M.A. Knights. This book can be considered a short read or a novelette and should not take too long to read, perfect if that’s what you’re looking for or if you want something that you can work on or finish over a commute.
Clementine Trussel is a young girl who did not set out to find the supernatural or go looking for it at all. Instead, without doing anything on her own, it ended up finding her instead.
Clementine thinks that she is surely seeing things when a small pig with a derby hat on ends up falling out of her Granny’s window. That couldn’t have possibly have been what happened. But she is backed up by the fact that there was another witness to this event. Theophilius Gout, a mysterious man, claims that he saw it too and on top of that says that he is an expert when it comes to the paranormal.
Despite not knowing him at all, Clementine thinks that there is something strange when it comes to this fatter man who is clad in tweed. When her grandmother falls ill, Clementine feels relatively uneasy about trusting her Granny’s recovery to a stranger, especially when it comes to being an enigmatic person like Mr. Gout is.
On top of all of this, the man seems definitely more interested in the cakes to be had from her parents’ bakery as opposed to anything that is outside of this world. But when the life of her grandmother and her own future come to hang in the balance, Clementine finds that she has few options but to follow this strange man all the way into a world of monsters and magic that ends up being hidden in the shadows of this quiet hometown.
Clementine has no idea if they will have done things in time in order to save her Granny. She also has her doubts about Mr. Gout, not knowing whether he is the man that he is claiming to be. Clementine is additionally left wondering, if the pig in the derby hat is not a pig really, then precisely what is it? Should she be afraid or concerned? Read this tremendously fun fantasy novel to go on a unique adventure that you will not forget any time soon!
Something in the Woodshed is the second book in the Trussel and Gout series by M.A. Knights. This is a short read novella that fans of other fantasy writers such as Terry Pratchett won’t want to miss!
Mr. Gout had not told Clementine everything. This was something that started to become very clear on the first night, which is when she had first showed up to take on her position working as his apprentice.
Somehow, investigating the paranormal was not something that Clementine was expecting. Abermwyl is the small Welsh fishing village that she has now chosen to call her home, but it’s far from being a place where all the excitement takes place. Worse than that, the welcome that she has received there has not been as warm as she had hoped.
Clementine thinks that Mr. Gout seems distracted. Then there’s Mrs. Winchester, his older housekeeper. She has made is very clear that when it comes to Clementine being around, she’s not happy about it at all.
Some odd events are about to come to pass when it comes to this small, sleepy village. A shipwreck that no one could have seen coming even ends up bringing a stranger to the shore, a sole survivor and a potential mad man. But could this ship have ended up bringing something else along with it as well, something that they weren’t anticipating?
No matter what she does, Clementine is having a difficult time trying to shake off the feeling that she’s being watched. When she feels a presence lurking around in the woodshed that is located behind the cottage that has become her new home, can she get down to the bottom of what’s there before it gets to her first? Read this wonderful fantasy, the second in the series by M.A. Knights, to find out!
