Author Marcia Thornton Jones was born on July 15 in the year 1968 in the town of Joliet, Illinois. She has written children’s books, and co-written over 130 elementary chapter books and picture books. Jones has even written a non-fiction book about writing. She has taught first and third grades, reading, writing, computer lab, and gifted and talented as a teacher in elementary schools. Jones has also worked at clothing stores and a book store, these she worked at while she was in both high school and in college. Since the year 1990, she has been a writer full-time. She has been to other schools in other states, and some other countries (this traveling to other schools has seen her visit Belgium and Germany).

She lives in the state of Kentucky (Lexington) with her husband (named Stephen, who designs her site for her) and their cats Calli and Coco (who are the couple’s only children). Besides writing stories, she likes beading crafts, going on hikes, reading a good book, and traveling.

Her and another woman named Debbie Dadey came up with their character, Mrs. Jeepers (who is in the “Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots”, the first novel in the “Bailey School Kids” series) when Jones’s students would not behave for both of them. Debbie was the librarian and Jones was the teacher of the third grade brats. They felt that if they both had horns and fangs that no kid would dare misbehave. Originally, they used to sit down and talk about the writing of the stories while they were together. Due to the fact that the pair live in different states, they have to communicate through technology.

“Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots” is the first novel in the “Adventures of the Bailey School Kids” series and was released in the year 1991. Every teacher that has taught the third grade at Bailey Elementary School has quit, because the kids are so difficult. Mrs. Jeepers, the new teacher, is different; actually, she is very different from the other teachers that have come before her. She comes from the Transylvanian Alps, that she has just moved from, and seems to have odd powers that give her the ability to deal with these trouble makers. These methods of hers may be a little weird, but then again, it may be just the thing to get these kids on the right track.

Fans of the novel found that they loved the books and enjoyed sharing them with another generation (who also enjoyed reading them). Some found that this was a great way to get their kids hooked on reading, since it was a good long series for them to read through.

“Werewolves Don’t Go to Summer Camp” is the second novel in the “Adventures of the Bailey School Kids” series and was released in the year 1991. Camp Lone Wolf’s new director seems to be a pretty nice guy. That being said, when the children learn about a boy from the town that went missing and the wolf (who prowls the grounds during the night time and is heard howling), they start to think that the name of the camp is more than just a name. Mr. Jenkins, the new director, is all covered in hair, likes to eat meat near raw, and is obsessed with werewolves. But he cannot really be a wolf, can he?

Fans of the novel found that this series was their favorite as kids; as they are lots of fun, easy reads, and short. Things are easy to understand in the book, so it is easy for kids to keep track of all of the characters in the book.

“Santa Claus Doesn’t Mop Floors” is the third novel in the “Adventures of the Bailey School Kids” series and was released in the year 1991. Some of the grown ups in Bailey City are kinda odd, but the custodian that was just hired at the Elementary Schol really takes the cake and is one of a kind. He appears just before Christmas comes to help out the school. Mr. Jolly’s longing for colder temperatures, his white hair, and his beard bring to everyone’s mind St. Nick, who has long been just a fable. He surely cannot be the real Santa Claus. Or can he? Bailey School Kids go on a path to find out exactly that.

Fans of the novel found that they were glad that their kids really enjoyed reading the books, as they keep kids reading. Parents found that it is fun to read the books with their kids and try out different voices for certain characters, adding to the experience and bonding while they read the books.

“Leprechauns Don’t Play Basketball” is the fourth novel in the “Adventures of the Bailey School Kids” series and was released in the year 1992. A short basketball coach comes to visit Bailey Elementary School. He even has a treasure. This coach can do many more tricks than the other kids at the school. Does all of this mean he is a leprechaun?

Fans of the novel found that even if their kid does not usually like to read, they will like this here book. These make great gifts to give to young readers that are in elementary school, and make for great bonding time for parents and kids.

“Ghosts Don’t Eat Potato Chips” is the fifth novel in the “Adventures of the Bailey School Kids” series and was released in the year 1992. Eddie’s Great-Aunt Mathilda is ill and it is his job to help care for her. Eddie and his friends visit her, and strange things begin happening. Howie’s garlic chips, when he has his back turned, are placed in such a way to spell the word ATTIC on the floor. Howie also sees someone looking out of the attic window looking at him. At the time of other visits, kids hear more noises coming from the attic. Great-Aunt Mathilda swears up and down that there is nothing up in the attic. Could it be Jasper (who is Eddie’s Great-Uncle), who died years ago haunting Mathilda’s home?

Fans of the novel found that their kids do not like to read, but finish these in a short amount of time. Some cannot get enough of these books, and with well over thirty books, that is not something that is hard to do.
