Marcus Kliewer is a published author and a stop-motion animator.
He is known for his debut novel We Used to Live Here. The story started out on the site Reddit as a serialized short story, going on to win the Scariest Story of 2021 Award on the 18 million member forum NoSleep.
The film rights were quickly acquired by Netflix and Simon & Schuster likewise rushed to acquire the rights for publication for the story before it had even been extended by Kliewer further into a full length novel.

Charlie and Eve are a couple who are young and queer and make their living flipping houses. As a result, they are not able to believe the amazing deal that they have just been able to get. It’s a pretty old house, but it’s also located in a beautiful neighborhood.
One day they are working on the house when there’s a knock on the door. A man’s standing there along with his family. He says that he has lived there in the years previous and asking if it would be okay if he were able to show his kids about the place a bit.
Eve decides to let them in, her people pleasing skills kicking in. Maybe it is against her better judgment, but it’s too late now. The apparent family are in her home. But from the second that they come in, all types of strange things begin to happen that are difficult to explain.
The youngest child in the family goes missing. A ghostly presence shows up in their basement. The family should be leaving soon, Eve thinks, but they don’t seem to be picking up on any type of hint that the visit that they’re making should be concluded soon and they should be starting to go on their way.
