Marion Moore Hill is an American published author. She is known for writing novels in the cozy mystery genre. She is a big lover of animals as well.

Hill was born in the state of Oklahoma, but spent her childhood growing up mainly in Kansas and Illinois. Her family would frequently move and Marion would have to change schools as they would follow around the constantly mobile career of her father in the oil field.

She would attend school in Kansas at El Dorado Junior College (name since changed) and graduated with her A.A. degree. She also attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Stanford University, where she would receive her M.A. in the field of communications.

Hill has been a newspaper reporter, a journalism and English class teacher for college students, an ad copywriter, and a legal secretary. She is married to her husband, Elbert. For some time they worked together owning and operating a small grocery store specializing in ethnic and gourmet foods located in Durant, Oklahoma, where she resides.

Hill is the creator and the author of the Scrappy Librarian Mystery series of fictional novels. This series first started in 2002 with the publication of the first book, Bookmarked for Murder. The series features the main character of Juanita Wills, a librarian in Oklahoma that is known for being funny and tough. She lives and works in the small town of Wyndham and gets to the bottom of mysteries using her local knowledge and research abilities.

The main character also has a canine partner in the form of Rip, named ironically after the serial killer Jack The Ripper– the dog is shy of people that he doesn’t know. Juanita has a partner in Wayne Cleary, a lieutenant with the Wyndham Police. He tries to get his girlfriend to avoid getting into these situations where she could potentially be in danger, but she’s often too nosy to heed his warnings. She also gets assistance in the form of Vivian Mathiesen, her friend and a reporter.

Hill is also the author of the Deadly Past Mysteries, which was made available to readers in 2006 with the publication of the first book, Deadly Will. The sequel would come out three years later and is titled Deadly Design. Deadly Kin is the third book in this series. The series feature Millie Kirchner, who has a deep interest in American history. Millie lives in Dallas but travels around the nation to go to different historical sites and solves crimes relevant to different Founding Fathers of the nation.

The author has done a fair amount of research in person for her Deadly Past books. She’s been to historical sites such as Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park (where her books are for sale) and Pennsylvania’s Valley Forge National Historical Park. For the sequel she went to Poplar Forest, the retreat home of Thomas Jefferson. She has also been to Monticello, the University of Virginia, and Colonial Williamsburg. She would also visit historical sites in Boston and surrounding areas for the third book.

Some of her readers ask her if she has anything in common with her librarian character. While Hill denies they’re one and the same, one thing she does have in common is that she spends a lot of time in libraries. This is because a lot of what she does in terms of writing and for her research involves reading. She was also an adult literacy tutor for twenty years as part of the Durant Literary Council. The author would also read stories on a weekly basis for some time to nursing home residents in Caddo, Oklahoma.

Hill also serves on a board for a community center and library. She is additionally a discussion leader and founder of the group Book Talk, where people meet to discuss books sponsored by a friends of the library group. She also belongs to the Oklahoma Writers’ Federation and Sisters in Crime/Mystery Writers of America.

She has also had her work appear in various publications. Her short stories and her novels have even won prizes from publications such as Johnson County Creative Writers, ByLine Magazine, Greater Dallas Writers’ Association, Oklahoma Writers’ Federation Inc., and Panhandle Professional Writers. Hill also had one of her first short stories win the Dagger Award in 1997 for Whispering Willow Mystery Magazine. She has also had short stories appear in Almostly Murder With Pets, and the Red Dirt Anthology of 2004 and 2006 put out by the Red Dirt Book Festival.

Bookmarked for Murder is the first book to come out in the Scrappy Librarian Mystery series by Marion Moore Hill. In this book, readers get to meet the main character of Juanita Wills for the first time. In this book, she’s going to have to take on a lot when she interferes with a hate group running secretly in her community.

Juanita is a librarian in a small town located in Oklahoma that’s known for being peaceful. But that small measure of peace is interrupted when a minister ends up beaten inside the very church that he preaches at. With a message of hate left behind on the wall, it’s up to Juanita to go and find out who’s responsible.

She’ll go against her boyfriend’s wishes to do it, but oh well. Juanita gets sleuthing and finds a cipher bookmark, decoding it and then going to try and track down a secret group in town. She is also starting to think an assistant librarian could be the suspect. But she’ll eventually find the killer. The only question is whether they’ve found her first. Read this book to find out the ending!

Death Books a Return sees the return of Juanita Wills once more. This time she’s looking into local history when she finds an unsolved murder from 1959.

A black teenager was killed, but it seems that she’s the only one interested in delving into a past of love affairs and secrets that used to knit Wyndham and Bryson’s Corner, an entirely black neighboring village, together. When a witness ends up poisoned, she wants nothing more to pursue justice and find a killer, no matter what. Find out what happens by picking up a copy of this book for yourself!
