Matt Whyman
Matt Whyman is an award winning non fiction writer and novelist. Matt has written widely across all age groups across a range of subjects.

He has co-written bestselling books with some of the world’s leading figures in high performance, sport, and pop culture including Billy Connolly, David Attenborough, Matthew Syed, and Gareth Southgate, as well as the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team.

Matt was born in 1969, and grew up in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, and got his MA from the UEA Creative Writing course that was taught by Rose Tremain and Sir Malcolm Bradbury.

Matt became the first male advice columnist for 19 magazine in 1995. He went on to hold a decade long residency as AOL UK’s online agony uncle, and was at Bliss Magazine for 18 years from 1996 until it closed down in 2014.

Matt has created numerous national health awareness campaigns for CLIC Sargent, BBC Radio 1, Brook Advisory, and Macmillan, written widely about teen issues for the national press, and has appeared often on TV and radio.

“The Wild” is a stand alone novel that was released in 2005. An original and poignant tale about the bond between two brothers, ripped apart by destitution and mental illness. Alexi and Misha have grown up in the shadow of the nuclear arms race, and they even make a living from it. Living in an increasingly destitute and bleak town right next to the old Aral Sea in Kazahkstan, the boys and their ‘crew’ are the first to spot the missile and rocket testing out in the nearby desert, and they’re the first to scavenge for nuclear debris, from which they can make a pretty good living on the black market.

However once Misha begins suffering seizures of a familiar and sinister sort, the local medical center tells Alexi that his sole hope of saving Misha’s life is take him to the nearest city where he’ll be able to get proper treatment. Taking Misha away means the brothers leave behind both their livelihood and family, and once the boys arrive in Moscow, a city which held so much hope from a distance, they’re hit by ruthless bureaucracy and plummeting temperatures.

The medics here cannot help Misha without having the right paperwork, and the right money, and the brothers are left to live rough behind this deserted sports stadium. Misha’s condition gets worse, and once packs of wild dogs find their hideout, he turns to them, instead of Alexi, for companionship and comfort. Alexi is slowly being shut out of his little brother’s life, and cannot penetrate Misha’s guard of dogs, and has no other choice but to just watch him die.

“Icecore” is the first novel in the “Carl Hobbes” series and was released in 2007. He is a 17 year old British computer hacker that penetrated the security systems at Fort Knox for a laugh. However the American government was less than amused. Ever since his prank, gold bars have been falling into the hands of terrorists all around the world.

Now Carl’s found himself landed in a military prison deep in the Arctic and off the grid. He has been caged up with some of the world’s most notorious of terrorists, with nobody to trust and no end in sight.

Carl Hobbes might not be a criminal mastermind, however if he wants to escape from this subzero prison with his life, he will need to begin thinking like one.

“Street Runners” is a stand alone novel that was released in 2008. If you ever find yourself in great danger, without anywhere else to turn, you might find help in the world beneath your feet.

That is exactly what happens to Yoshi, this one night in London’s Chinatown. Fleeing from this mystery pursuer, the boy finds himself in this subterranean and sprawling network of tracks, tunnels, vaults, and lost waterways. It is also the home to this band of street runners schooled in modern magic, the art of trickery and illusion.

Yoshi, with help from his new friends, uncovers his own crucial part in this mission to tap the ancient forces that underpin the capital. However can he possibly pull off the performance of a lifetime before his past can catch up with him, or is life on the street level going to fall under a dangerous and dark spell?

“The Savages” is the first novel in the “Savages” series and was released in 2013. They would love to have you for dinner.

Sasha Savage is in love with Jack Greenway, this charming, handsome, and clever vegetarian. Which would be totally acceptable if not for the fact that Sasha’s family are incredibly ‘carnivorous’ with these strong views to boot. Behind their respectable family facade all isn’t quite what it seems.

Titus (Sasha’s dad) rules the family with an iron fist, and even though Angelica (her mom) never has a single hair out of place, her culinary abilities are getting more ‘adventurous’ with each passing day and her credit card bills are shocking. And as for Ivan, Sasha’s demonic brother? Well, after he accidentally decapitated a supermodel in their family bathroom, let’s just say that his golden boy image is looking pretty wobbly.

To the outsider the Savages might appear to be the perfect family, however there is much more to them than meets the eye. When Vernon English (a too-curious private detective) starts digging for darker truths, this tight-knit family begins unraveling, and so does their predatory and sinister taste in human beings.

“Bad Apple” is a stand alone novel that was released in 2016. This is a riotous dark comedy that teems with delightfully unacceptable behavior.

Maurice (age 16), like all good law-abiding citizens, no longer even considers going off the rails as merely a teen phase. It can just mean the mark of some dark troll.

However these trolls are not confined to just causing trouble online. Now they are living in our homes, on our streets, and have ruined life as we know it. As a rule Maurice does his best to avoid all trouble, up until he crosses paths with Wretch, this bad apple. And with tensions rising, can these two teens set their differences aside so they can survive?
