April was a pretty weak reading month for me honestly. However before I get ot that – I just want to say one thing I am hooked on; random discovery of audiobooks.

I’m lucky in that my library which uses the Libby app, works with 6 other libraries and they share catalogues.

What that means is that if I search “Stephen King” in one library it may list 15 books. Then I can check another and I can find 23 books, all different.

Where I get the most enjoyment however, is the “skip the line” feature. I don’t even know how it works; but it basically feels like a way to skip a big hold line and get a book simply because I logged in at a random time.

When I am finished an audiobook, which is what I use Libby exclusively for, I often check that first and just see if anything random pops up. It can be quite fun. That’s how I discovered the first book on this list:

The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia: I had never even heard of this thriller author before. I loved this one. It was about two women, who don’t know each other, that get on the same plane. Then both of them start sending very odd text messages mentioning the same man, however then it becomes apparent that both woman have actually disappeared. The book got me with some really good twist and turns, and although it has quite the polarizing ending, this was a great listen and I’ll definetly check out more by Jessie.

The Fury by Alex Michaelides: I listened to this one next. I can’t remember if it was a skip the line or not but I really enjoyed it. The narration was superb. It was a murder mystery on a remote Greek Island. The story itself was just okay, but the narration by Alex Jennings was next level.

Running the Dream by Matt Fitzgerald: I had Kingston Race Weekend near the end of the month so I listened to this. It’s about a runner who gets the chance to train with ultra athletes. If you’re into running, this is a superb book. I had listened to it previously, but one thing he talks about is injuries leading up to the run. I had a few injuries so it was nice to listen to this and sort of normalize them.

Beartooth by Callan Wink The prose for this one was fantastic, but the story not so much. It just didn’t feel like it knew what it wanted to be, and I had issues with the pacing. It just really lacked a purpose. Not one I enjoyed.

The Man Who Saw Seconds by Alexander Boldizar: I was very excited about this Locus Award Winning novel. The story is about a man who can see 5 seconds into the future. Great concept, but I thought very rough execution. It just seemed to jump all over. The first portion of the book was really explaining this phenomenom time and again, then the action would just jump months ahead, then it all just got silly. If anything, it felt like 6 books crammed into one.

The Dinner Party by Freida McFadden: Like the old Choose Your Own Adventure books. Quite a fun experience – worth checking out.

Not the best month for reading. Been extremely busy with a lot of things going on but that is all about to die down soon. Long story short I have like 2 months of travel coming up from May 20th, so I am clearing this huge backlog of work then it will primarily be nothing but vacation, good times, and of course, reading!
