The Signal is a strange transmission that appears to be sent out, pulsing from the very edge of the solar system. When it arrives to the planet, it appears that the entire world shifts overnight and everything has changed without warning. Satellites fail, planes are grounded, and there’s all types of speculation. No one was prepared when it comes to something like this shifting the entire paradigm.
Many think that it could be the first contact that humans have had with extraterrestrial life and so the human race is holding its breath. Alex is a lawyer in his thirties who has spent years of his life distancing himself from what cannot be explained. To him, the Signal feels like something personal, perhaps because it is picking at old wounds and bringing up things that Alex would prefer to be buried.
It was decades back that Alex and a girl named Ana went missing while they were on vacation in Palm Springs. The pair went missing for 36 hours. They were able to come back and they were not harmed at all, just a little dazed. The account of the experience led many to believe that it was an alien abduction, since it had all the signs of it.
There was of course a media frenzy in the aftermath and it served to make both of them famous. There were also long months of being a child star, with talk show appearances and cameos on sitcoms. He thought that it made a strong bond between them that could never pull them apart, until the mystery behind why they went missing started affecting them.
Now all of the world is stressed out, and the Signal is getting even stronger as time goes on. Alex is pulled to the one person out there that might just have the answers that Alex is looking for. Ana is now a pro advocate for those who have went through ET contact. She’s leading a retreat close to Palm Springs that is not far from the site of their childhood disappearance.
As the former best pals come together and reunite, what had began as a quest to try and take on the reality of what they had went through transforms to become a bigger reckoning with family, friendship, faith and truth, and what it means to see the stories that we tell to ourselves for what they are. This is a deeply engaging story that readers won’t want to miss– check out Voyagers to see what happens and to discover an all new voice in fiction for yourself with Meg Charlton today!
