Megan Lally is a young adult fiction novelist. From her home in the Pacific Northwest, she loves to write twisted young adult novels about true crime, heartbreak, mayhem, and murder. Originally from New Hampshire on the East Coast, she moved to the Northwest during her high school years and has been living there ever since. She has developed a liking for the Oregon coast and the rain and has penned many of her novels at coastal writing retreats wearing her lucky Twilight sweatpants. Megan published That’s Not My Name her debut novel in 2023 before publishing her second in 2025. When she is not penning her novels, she can usually be found barefoot on the beach, cleaning her house, lost in the bookstore, stress baking, or drinking too many lattes.
The first book Megan Lally remembers reading as a child were the Little Golden Books. The Poky Little Puppy is still very vivid in her mind as she read and reread it over the years. Megan always loved English classes in school, even if she was a late bloomer who did not write anything until years after leaving school. It all started when a family friend who loved the Twilight series insisted on her reading a copy and it was not long before she became just as obsessed. Thereafter, she read just about any adult fiction work she could find for months afterward. Soon enough, she was taking her favorite books and writing alternate endings in her head and imagining new threads for novel sequels that were yet to come out. Ultimately, someone told her that if she thought she could do better, she should be writing a book. Motivated by spite, she started writing, even though her very early manuscripts will likely never see the light of day.
As for her writing, Megan Lally’s first work probably took a month or a month and a half to write. She believes that it had to do with the fact that she knew nothing about writing books. As such, those 120 thousand words were nothing better than nonsense with no character or plot development and with dialogue that she is certain did not make sense to anyone. Nonetheless, Megan never gave up, as the more she wrote and learned about writing, the longer it took to write down what she came up with. She started going back to delete sections and apply knowledge to scenes she had written earlier to make them better. For the manuscript that got her an agent, it took about 5-6 months to finish writing, while it took about 8 months to write That’s Not My Name.
Like many novelists, Megan Lally writes her novels from her home in the Pacific Northwest. She has a tiny office in her old 1930s home which she believes was once a micro bedroom or something like that. In that office, she has just a loveseat, a desk, and a bunch of books spread all around. Unlike other authors, her tiny office also has a whiteboard where she usually puts down her revision notes and drafts some of her plots. She also has a big board on the wall where she does her post-it-plotting. Since the tiny office is what she turns into a guest room whenever she has guests, she sometimes works from a coffee shop. A few streets from her house is a cute coffee shop where she works in public when she feels like it or when she cannot work from her office. She loves the mismatched furniture and all-brick nature of the place and coupled with amazing lavender latte, it is just what she needs to get inspiration for her novels.
That’s Not My Name is a work that Megan Lally published in 2023. At the opening, a seventeen-year-old girl wakes up covered in blood in a ditch with a lump on her head and a crushed nose. She has no idea who she is and what she is doing in the middle of nowhere. Meanwhile, another seventeen-year-old boy named Drew is accused of either killing or kidnapping Lola his girlfriend. The girl who is suffering from amnesia has been taken home and has informed her that she is named Mary and she is not Loal who Drew is accused of killing. Officer Roane will do anything to convict Drew just to get closure and reassure the residents of the small community. On the other side of town, the more Mary spends time with her controlling conservative, and overprotective father, the more questions she has about their relationship. Meanwhile, Drew is shunned by the community but remains determined to get to the bottom of how his girlfriend went missing. He is feeling guilty for letting her go on the night she went missing. But will he be able to find the cryptic clues and track down her location before they lose everything?
Megan Lally published No Place Left to Hide his second novel in 2025. This is the story of Brooke Goodwin a golden girl known for her intense extracurricular program, perfect grades, and great looks. She appeared to be the perfect friend, daughter, and student until six months ago when her world was shaken to the core. Her arch nemesis Claire is involved in a tragic accident during a secret party at her parents’ summer house. Her brother blames Brooke and things are made worse by the fact that someone keeps slashing her tires and sticking on her car newspaper clippings about the accident. She decides to leave town and for six months, she lives in the shadows lying low. But then Jen her best friend asks her to attend a beach party and promises that Claire’s former boyfriend and her longtime crush will also be in attendance. She also promises that they won’t drink and will be home before curfew. But coming from the party, their car is followed by a Bronco and she starts to get threatening calls from an unknown number. If she is to get out of it, Brooke will have to beat the tormentor at a very dangerous game of chicken.
