Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is an American member of the British royal family. Prior to her marriage to Prince Harry, she was known as Meghan Markle. She made her debut as an author in 2021 with the release of The Bench, a children’s book.

Markle is from Los Angeles, California and worked as an actor for many years. She was immersed in the world of film and television from a young age as her father worked as a director of photography and lighting for television. However, she is now estranged from her father. She attended L.A.’s Immaculate Heart High School, an all-girl Catholic school, and then went on to attend college at Northwestern University. She attempted to start a political career, but after not passing the Foreign Service Officer test she decided to return to her schooling at Northwestern. It was there that she began acting for the first time.

At first she had some issue with her acting career because of her biracial race with producers not feeling she was black enough for black roles or white enough for white roles. She did slowly start to earn more appearances though and even appeared as a briefcase girl on Deal or No Deal. She had a breakthrough role on Fox’s Fringe television show as Junior Agent Amy Jessup, then appeared in small roles in Get Him to the Greek, The Candidate, and Horrible Bosses. Her biggest role came when she joined the cast of Suits on the USA Network as Rachel Zane, a paralegal who worked her way up to becoming an attorney.

Meghan was married before Prince Harry as well. She dated film producer Trevor Engelson beginning in 2004 and the two married in 2011. They were married for just under two years and divorced in 2013. She met Harry in 2016 and the two began dating. It wasn’t too long after that Harry had to release a statement about how she was being portrayed in the media and by internet trolls. The two became engaged in 2017 and it was considered a major success for a mixed-race person to be joining the Royal family. Markle then announced her retirement from acting and her desire to become a British citizen.

The wedding was a major event with her wedding dress being designed by Clare Waight Keller and the event itself airing on television across the world. Money generated by the wedding was donated to Feeding Britain. The couple would eventually make their home at Frogmore Cottage in the Home Park of Windsor Castle. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex would give birth to a son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor in 2019.

The couple then moved their office to Buckingham Palace, but it was shut down after the Sussexes made the decision to withdraw from royal engagements. They made the decision to withdraw as senior members of the Royal Family due to privacy issues and the hostile treatment they had received from the media. The family would go on to leave Britain, buying the former estate of Riven Rock in Montecito, California. In 2021, Meghan gave birth to the couple’s second child, a daughter named Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. The couple also have dogs and a flock of rescue chicken which they also tend to.
