Michael J. Malone is an award winning author and poet from the United Kingdom, who likes to write crime fiction novels and poetry. He is known to have published more than 200 poems in various literary magazines all over the UK. The debut full length novel written by Malone is Blood Tears, which was awarded the Pitlochry Prize by the Association of Scottish Writers. In addition to the poems, author Malone has also written a couple of poetry collections, 6 novels, one nonfiction work, and numerous articles for magazines. A popular novel written by Michael J. Malone in his novel writing career is entitled ‘A Suitable Lie’. It was released by the Orenda Books publication in the year 2017. The main characters introduced by author Malone in this book include Andy Boyd and Anna. At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that Andy Boyd considers himself lucky to be alive. His wife died in childbirth and now he is left widowed with his young child. Andy used to love his wife very much and therefore, he believes that he will never find true love in his life again. Later, he comes across a woman named Anna. Andy finds her feisty, beautiful, and fun-loving. It appears that she is the perfect for him. One more reason for Andy to like Anna is that she treats his son like her own and loves him very much. The two indulge with each other so much that they decide to get married and settle down. But, on the night of his wedding, something happens that causes Andy end up in hospital. There, he receives a clue about Anna that makes him believe that she is not what she appears to be. However, Andy chooses to ignore it as he seems desperate for a happy future with Anna. This turns out to be a big mistake on his part, as he faces the danger of losing everything, along with his life and his son. The readers believe that the book is written very well and the storyline in also executed in a good way. Malone’s depiction of a woman taking the role of the abuser and a male as the victim of domestic violence, who goes on to lose his self-esteem and self-worth, was appreciated by many critics and readers. Author Malone was praised for taking such a bold step and writing a story on an important subject that is prevalent in the society, but is hardly talked about. Another interesting book written by author Malone is called ‘Beyond The Rage’. The Saraband publication released it in 2015. The story revolves around the life of the central character named Kenny O’Neil. At the beginning of the story of the book, Kenny is depicted as a feared and successful criminal living in Glasgow. In spite of having everything in life, he seems angry. The reasons for his anger include the recent attack on his prostitute girlfriend and the fact that his dad is trying to reach out to him in spite of abandoning him when he was a child, following the suicide of his mother. Later, Kenny sets out to the find the attacker who tried to kill his girlfriend as well as discover the truth related to his father. However, he ends up finding some disturbing secrets about his family. In the end, Kenny learns that revenge does not always turn out to be sweet. The book is a violent and intelligent thriller, and includes elements of dark humor. It tends to disturb and enthrall the readers in equal proportions. The intricate plot, believable characters, and high-pitched dialogue were liked by the critics and readers very much.
