About Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù

The Chinese author Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù is a natural-born storyteller, largely writing fantasy novels with a romantic twist. Focusing on her craft for a number of years now, she has a strong creative streak that really stands out, setting her apart from other writers within her field. Making a name for herself with her distinctive style, her name is a pseudonym, and she’s also known as MXTX to many. Her work as also seen several highly popular adaptations, putting her at the forefront of her field, with her work being enjoyed in both China and abroad.

One of the most successful authors currently working within their genre, they’re writing excels as a prime example of what the format can achieve. Over time she’s found her own style, making a name for herself that’s instantly recognizable, becoming a household name for many worldwide. Early and Personal Life

A natural born storyteller, Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù would grow up with a keen passion for reading, later turning to writing herself. Focusing on fan-fiction for a time, she would find her own path as a writer, with her first key text being a piece of D. Gray-Man anime fanfic she read. Discovering this in middle-school, she would soon turn to reading countless stories in the genre, before going on to find her own voice.

Taking her pseudonym from her time spent wanting to pursue literature in college, she would instead study economics. These studies were at the request of her mother, who claimed she could smell ink in one hand of her daughters, and money in the other, with Mò Xiāng meaning ‘black fragrance,’ and Tóng Xiù meaning ‘the stink of money.’ Currently still writing to this very day, she has plenty more titles planned for the future, with a lot more set for release on the horizon.

Writing Career

Starting out back in 2014 with the book ‘The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System,’ Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù would begin her literary career with an ongoing series. Along with the ‘Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System’ series, she would also write ‘Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Shi’ and ‘Heaven Official’s Blessing: Tian Guan Ci Fu.’ All of this would help secure her name as one of the foremost writers working within the genre of fantasy, becoming highly popular far and wide.

Later these books would be translated, with English translations arriving on the market back in 2021, as more would follow. There would also be animated versions of her novels, along with live-action adaptations as well, with popular Chinese television series being produced. Many of her works also focus on the Danmei subgenre, as she continues to grow in popularity around the world every day, with presence both offline and on.

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Shi 4

Originally published in English on the 13th of December in 2022, this would arrive through the ‘Seven Seas Entertainment’ publishing imprint. It was the fourth book in the ongoing ‘Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Shi’ series of novels, continuing on directly from the previous books in the series. The series itself follows the lead protagonist of Wei Wuxian, he’s feared as he pursues demonic cultivation, growing in power following his resurrection and search for vengeance.

In this part of the saga he stands alongside Lan Wangji, as the two of them face off against an army of walking corpses on top of the Burial Mounds. Hoping to unmask whoever is behind this onslaught, they must first both protect their loved ones, as they hope to survive this ordeal. As their relationship grows between them, revelations come to light, as they face up to the past while also looking to the future. Will they be able to fight against this army, can they discover the truth behind it all, and what will become of this demonic cultivation?

What really drives this series is the story and the characters, as they’ve truly become enduring at this point in the franchise. Making a real impact upon the reader, they really do come alive, as the audience is fully invested in both them and their outcome. The series itself does need to be read in order though, as the stories are not stand-alone, even if some of the narrative arcs are self-contained to each part.

The Scum Villains Self-Saving System 4

Initially released through the ‘Seven Seas Entertainment’ publishing house once again, this was published in English in 2022 on the 1st of November. Translated into English by Faelicy, it’s the fourth book in ‘The Scum Villains Self-Saving System’ series of fantasy novels, with it also being adapted as the ‘Scumbag System’ series. Another series of fantasy Danmei novels from China, these books see Shen Yuan reborn in the world of a web-comic as Shen Qingqiu, teacher to Luo Binghe.

Over the course of this story readers are offered an insight into the world following the conclusive events of the previous book. Providing extra stories set in the same fantasy world as before, it looks at the past, present, and future of the many different characters readers have come to know and love. Picking up just days after the previous book, there’s also a story set in an alternative world where Luo Binghe was never saved. Where will there journey take them all, can they find what they’re all looking for, and what shall become of the scum villains self-saving system?

Again this is a series that needs to be read in order so as to gain the most from it, with it being a more comedic take on the fantasy saga. There’s a lot of humor at the heart of it, as it features engaging characters that really do leave a powerful impression on the reader. An excellent example of world-building, the book very much manages to expand upon what came before, offering a deeper look into life in this fantasy universe.
