If you have been looking for something fun in the fiction realm that will keep you entertained and turning the pages to get to the end, try checking out this dark and humorous novel about two sisters who have been estranged for some time who have been put together by the dying wish of their father.
Main characters Mickey and Arlo might be sisters, but they are only half sisters. They have never spoken to each other and in fact have never even met before. Arlo loved her father deeply and had a sense of adoration for him, yet she always found that she was living in the shadow when it came to not only his magnetic personality but his vices– which were always a burden.
Their father left Mickey as well as her mother behind years ago, and ever since then Mickey has sincerely hated him. Then she finds out the news that her father has passed away. She is very surprised to find out that her father left to her his fortune, which is a considerable amount. The only problem is that it comes with a catch. Mickey is required to go to a series of therapy sessions, and only after she manages to do so will she become the recipient of the money as it is released.
But neither of the women know that there is another layer to this requirement. Mickey’s father has already picked out the psychologist that Mickey must meet with. Little does she know that the professional she will be seeing and opening up to is actually Arlo, her half sister.
Arlo was the one to care for her father while he was ill in bed, and then she gets the surprise of a lifetime. After all of that effort to take care of him, she finds out that he has cut her out of his will entirely. She is devastated, but she is also determined. Arlo tells herself that she is going to find out where the money went, as well as why she was cut out in the first place.
Arlo begins seeing Mickey, and they are soon therapist and patient. The two of them are in the dark for the moment, having no idea about the truth that they are actually sisters and related genetically. They quickly start to get under the skin of the other one.
Arlo is trying to get away from a mistake she made in the past as a professional, and wants nothing more than to redeem herself. Doing well with the new client would be a good start in that direction. However, when it comes to being the ideal patient, Mickey is far from that.
Mickey’s life as a professional and personally starts to get out of control. Meanwhile, Arlo gets to the bottom about who her newest patient actually is and starts to figure out her real identity. The sisters now discover that without intending to be, they are on a crash course. Following it to the end could be the thing to save them both– or break them for good. Which will it be, and can the half sisters find peace in what has happened and with each other? Read this book to find out!
