When he was younger, he would have dreams that he would grow up to make video games for a living. He did not have a console at the time, but he had a personal computer, and he relates that the games that he played on his personal computer would blow his mind when he was a kid.

When MMOs came around, their advent was very exciting to the author. It was only natural, he says, that he would want to have a job that was related in some way to this thing that he loved that was so amazing. It was quite unfortunate but he says that now as an adult he has been forced to abandon the dream upon realizing the reality of how difficult and horrible the video game industry can be.

Although his dreams were not to be, Neven notes that he still somehow was able to end up working as a programmer, something that he enjoys a lot, so it wasn’t all bad. He says that in his free time he still games extensively, going for both single and multiplayer RPGs as his favorite genre. Neven says that he was introduced to LitRPG through many different translated Japanese light novels, which ended up striking a chord with him.

Neven also attempted to read classics such as the Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, but admits that he didn’t have a lot of patience for it. He notes that it is difficult to engage people when you spend over ten pages on just describing a forest!

When he eventually came into writing as a hobby, it was his love of games that provided a source from which to draw inspiration. He also used his logical thinking as a programmer to put the elements together. He says that he is a big fan when it comes to consistent and unambiguous mechanics, which he hopes comes through in his work. Neven considers writing to still be a hobby over a profession since it gives him job creating and he does not want anything to compromise that by tying in his financial stability to it.

Neven Iliev is known for being the creator and the author of the Everybody Loves Large Chests series of fictional novels. The series kicked off with Morningwood and continued from there!

Morningwood is the first book in the Everybody Loves Large Chests series by Neven Iliev.
