Nina Moreno is a published American author known for writing books that can often feel like they are partially a telenovela and partially Southern fiction.

She is a graduate of the University of Florida. She resides with her family somewhere outside of Orlando close to a swamp. There she likes to listen to playlists that have been carefully curated while also making her way through different thrift stores hunting for good finds, and she admits that she has a tendency to drink a little too much Cuban coffee.
Nina Moreno has written books such as Don’t Date Rosa Santos, Our Way Back to Always, as well as the Maggie Diaz series. She has also participated in a variety of anthologies including the young adult anthology Reclaim the Stars, which is an anthology of genre-bending fiction.

The main character in this book is Maggie Diaz. All of the people involved in her life seem to be doing well and are busy finding out what their passion is in life. They’re honing in on various things that seem to define them as people, and everyone around her is suddenly changing and doing different things.
Julian and Zoey are her best friends, but they seem like they’re just too busy to spend time with he rafter school because they have comics club and band. Then there’s her mother, who is preoccupied trying to complete her final college semester.
Then there’s the older sister Caro. She is perfect in nearly every way and is doing well with sports as well as her tutoring club. These all seem like good pursuits, so Maggie decides that if she can’t beat them, she may as well join them.
She decides that she will go out and try a lot of clubs and see what works for her. However, doing her best to try and fit in with all of the devoted people in these clubs who all seem to know what they’re doing proves to be a little overwhelming right off the bat and she soon gets tired trying to find new things to do and pursue them all.
Maggie has a bad moment when she lets down her friends and soon finds out that packing her schedule full of activities may not have been the right move after all. She had to juggle school, her after-school activities, and her friends too, and it was not as easy to do as she had expected.
Finding out more about herself and who she is might require some help as well as a little magic on behalf of the bruja neighbor next door. Will she be able to do it and get things back on track, or is Maggie about to find out that she really is in over her head? Read this fun middle grade book from Nina Moreno to find out.
Pack Your Bags, Maggie Diaz is the second book in the Maggie Diaz series by Nina Moreno. This is a middle grade novel that is full of heart as well as a little humor! Just as fun as the first, this story is also illustrated courtesy of Courtney Lovett.
The spring semester has arrived and Maggie is doing really well. She has better grades than ever, she is trying outdoor track and field and really enjoying it, and she knows that being in the seventh grade means that the spring break trip that the class always goes on to St. Augustine is about to be here at last.
Maggie is very excited for the first trip that she is going to be taking overnight away from her family. It’s going to finally be her chance to cut loose and not have to deal with her parents being too overprotective, her sister who always seems to be in love, and her abuela who always gets into everybody’s business.
She knows that she is going to have the time of her life with Zoey and Julian, two of her closest friends. But all of the plans that she has to go on this amazing trip that she has put together begin to fall apart as all of them begin to get carried away with the dance that is quickly coming up on the social calendar in place of this.
Now Julian has a crush too, and he is thinking about asking the new girl if she wants to be his date. Then he actually does it and their entire group dynamic is thrown into chaos. Zoey has been obsessing about school and has been so stressed about it that her streak of getting straight A’s is thrown into question.
Then there’s also the fact that Maggie is not able to get her mind off of Eerie Eddie. The three close friends have been together for years and have been totally inseparable. However, everything is starting to change as all of them are breaking off from the group into their own pairs of two.
This is starting to make Maggie feel that she doesn’t really fit in anymore. Will she be able to find a new place where she can fit in, and will things ever go back to the way that they were? Can she keep her grades up and will everything work out for our beloved main character in the end? Check out Pack Your Bags, Maggie Diaz by Nina Moreno if you want to find out what happens with not only Maggie but her family and friends!
