Sociopath: A Memoir(2024)Description / Buy at Amazon

Patric Gagne is a former therapist, a writer, and an advocate when it comes to people who suffer from having psychopathic, sociopathic, and anti-social personality disorders.

She has written the book Sociopath: A Memoir, a New York Times bestseller. This novel documents and extends the author’s attempt to try and understand her own sense of sociopathy, as well as her efforts to shed more light on this mental disorder, which is frequently misunderstood.

The author attended UCLA, graduating with her B.A. She then enrolled at the California Graduate Institute on the Westwood, California campus. This is a graduate school that specializes in marital and family therapy, psychology, and psychoanalysis. Patric got her M.A. degree in psychology from the CGI and attended The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she graduated with a doctorate.

Patric’s dissertation was titled “Followers of Fagin: Secondary Sociopathy and Its Relationship to Anxiety”. It looked into the relationship that existed between anxiety and sociopathy, a topic that later would become the foundation for the author’s memoir.

These days, she is doing her best to try and work on the definition of psychopathy, expanding its definition so that its spectrum disorder status is included. She is part of the board of PsychopathyIs. Patric is also a member of the Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy.

She is married to her husband, David. They have two children together.

Patric is not a pen name– the author’s legal full name is Patricia Cagle Gagne. She has not had any research papers published, as they require skill, discipline, and a level of patience that she does not possess. The author says that she was just happy to finish her dissertation, which cannot be found online because when she earned her doctorate online publishing was not a requirement from her graduate school.

Sociopath: A Memoir is the debut novel from Patric Gagne. If you like memoirs that are about interesting topics, you can’t go wrong with this book!

Revelatory and fascinating, this is the tale of an author doing their best to try and deal with their own sociopathic nature. She’s also done her best to try and shed some more light on the mental disorder, which is frequently maligned by others, portrayed in certain ways in pop culture, and is frequently misunderstood.

Patric Gagne always knew that there was something about her that was causing others around her to have a very specific reaction. Even before she started kindergarten, she realized that she had a way of making other people uncomfortable.

There was just something about her intrinsically causing others to react in a certain way, but she didn’t understand it. She thought about it and had her suspicions that the reason was because she didn’t seem to feel things, not in the way that the other kids were.

She did not feel things like guilt, fear, or empathy. Overall, Patric mostly felt nothing. However, she did not really enjoy the way that feeling that way felt. The young girl put a lot of effort into pretending that she was like everyone else was, but it was a lot of pressure for her to constantly try to put a mask on and conform to a society that she fully knew would reject someone like her.

Patric did things like lie and steal. On some occasions, she was violent. She was an expert when it comes to picking locks and she was good at invading homes. She just wanted to try and replace that feeling of nothingness with something instead.

Patric was first in college when she figured out what she had suspected for quite some time– the fact that she was a sociopath. Being a sociopath had been the first personality disorder that was identified over two centuries ago. Despite this fact, it had been severely neglected for decades by health professionals.

The author was informed by others that there really was no treatment, and as a result, there was no real hope that she could ever have a life that was normal. Patric began seeing sociopaths everywhere in pop culture, villains and madmen who were portrayed as monsters. It appeared that the future ahead of her was anything but bright if this was anything to go on.

Things take a sudden change that make Patric think that perhaps there isn’t a complete lack of hope after all. She makes a connection again with a flame from the past and she is able to finally see the future as it exists past her diagnosis.

Patric realizes that if she is able to love, it might mean that she isn’t doomed to be a monster after all. She enlists the help of her love and some people that she meets and goes on a mission to show the country and herself that the people who have her diagnosis too are not monsters. This is the story of one woman who refused to be defined and has done her best to create a life that is full of hope as well as love.

Whether you know someone who is struggling with this diagnosis or are simply fascinated by the story, pick up a copy of Sociopath and follow along with Patric’s journey for yourself.
