Peter Boland is a published author known for writing cozy mystery stories and thrillers.

He studied at first to be an architect, but after some time he realized that he was not very good. While he enjoyed designing buildings, he found that he could not make them stand up, a bit of a hold back in an industry that prefers to have things upright. So it was that he switched over to the advertising field, ending up penning ads that sold everything from zombie video games to cruise lines.

Peter would eventually become disillusioned with the practice of working for ad agencies. He switched over to writing thriller novels, an endeavor that also afforded him the opportunity to continue to work from home in his pajamas. Soon he became aware that when it comes to writing, there isn’t a magic formula. You simply have to type out one word in front of the other, and continue to do that for roughly a year.

He met his wife Shalini, got married, and they had two ‘awesome’ children together. He was impressed when she sat down and wrote a book, and then she kept writing more that were really good. He thought to himself that he may as well have a go at it and now Boland is enjoying his own literary career!

The author says that it also helps for him if he can resist the allure of other activities. These include hanging out with his son and playing Nintendo Switch, watching shows like America’s Next Top Model with his daughter, and simply hanging out in a garden chair and drinking some beer.

The Charity Shop Detective Agency is the first book in the Charity Shop Mysteries Series, also known as the Charity Shop Detective Agency series by Peter Boland. If you have been looking for a light mystery series that is charming and completely engaging, you are going to love this cozy murder mystery debut set in a small seaside English sleepy town. Put your kettle on for your favorite cup of tea or coffee and check out the book that Simon Brett OBE calls ‘witty and knowing’!

For main characters Sue, Fiona, and Dairy, retirement has been interesting. They’ve managed to fill the time by volunteering their own at the local charity shop called Dogs Need Nice Homes. The shop raises money so that they can find their canine friends wonderful new homes to be placed in so that they can live out their lives happily. But they are all mutually shocked when they hear the news that their favorite customer will no longer be coming in to patronize the place– because they are dead.

Making the news even worse is the fact that it was no natural death. Sarah Brown was 86 years old, so many expected to hear that she passed away from natural causes. They are shocked when they find out the news that she was murdered in her hallway by her own delivery man. On top of that, it appears that she was found clutching a domino in her hand that has a name scratched onto it.

Things start heating up when it appears that the killer has struck again. Yet another victim is discovered dead, clutching a domino in their hand as well. It appears that there is a link between these deaths. Could the public be dealing with a serial killer? All evidence and signs seem to be pointing unmistakably to ‘yes’.

The ladies decide that they are going to do their best to try and get to the bottom of what is going on and hopefully capture a killer. They aren’t alone, either– they also have Fiona’s scruffy terrier cross Simon Le Bon to help them out.

With plenty of cake and tea to fuel them, the Charity Shop Detective Agency is in business. Can they get to the bottom of these killings and make a difference? It’s certainly looking possible. See why readers are praising this book, calling it everything from ‘blooming marvelous’ to pure perfection’ by getting a copy for yourself! If you love cozy crime stories, this is one that you simply have to check out.

The Beach Hut Murders is the second book in the Charity Shop Mysteries by Peter Boland. Set in the coastal town of Southbourne, this sequel continues the adventures from the first story and allows readers to see what the ladies of the Charity Shop Detective Agency are up to. If you loved the debut, dive right in and get ready for some more cozy mystery adventure!

Southbourne is nearly ready for summer. Meanwhile, the ladies who belong to the Charity Shop Detective Agency are getting prepared to take on another season, this one full of sea, sun, and inevitably, murder.

It doesn’t take too long before the ladies have another case on their hands. This time it’s having to deal with a horrific crime. Among a row of bright cabins, a beach hut belonging to an older gentleman is set on fire in the night. Unfortunately, it was done while he was still sleeping inside, and he succumbs to his injuries as a result.

Fiona, Daisy and Sue spend their time volunteering at the charity shop Dogs Need Nice Homes. But now they have a new routine and identity. They investigate crimes by night, doing what the police cannot. This murder is especially ghastly, and they are determined to find out what happened and bring the person responsible to justice.

Malcolm Crainey may have been painted as an eccentric, but he was also fairly harmless. The ladies are having a tough time figuring out who out there would have any desire to kill him, but soon find themselves racking up a rather long list of potential suspects in the matter.

The list includes neighbors who harbored resentment towards Malcolm for refusing to switch huts, as well as members of the beach hut association who did not care for Malcolm’s cabin decorations (quirky things combed from the beach). When another hut gets burned down in the night, the pressure mounts. Can the ladies track down the arsonist/murderer before they claim another hut or victim? Read The Beach Hut Murders, second in the Charity Shop Mysteries, to find out!
