Peter Darman is a published author.
He grew up in Grantham, Lincolnshire. He would later go on to attend the King’s Grammar School after he had successfully passed the Eleven Plus exam. He says that for the exam, he recalls writing an essay about Oliver Cromwell, which Darman considered to be his first piece of military writing.
Darman then attended Nottingham, where he graduated with a BA in history and international relations. He then took a Master of Philosophy course at the University of York. The subject in the class was the generalship and cavalry of Prince Rupert of the Rhine during the English Civil War. He says that the year that he was researching and writing at York, Oxford, and London’s British Library was a wonderful time.
Peter would eventually move to London. He would join up at a small publishing company as an editor, which began his writing career.
The Parthian is the first book in the Parthian Chronicles by Peter Darman. Pacorus is a prince of the Parthian Empire and is sent to get revenge when Rome transgresses upon a region between the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers that is his father’s domain.
After experiencing a succession of victories, Pacorus and his men are captured in Cappadocia. They are put into chains and get sent to Italy, where they will presumably live the rest of their lives out as slaves. But fate comes in and Pacorus as well as his companions are rescued from this horrible life by a renegade gladiator who goes by the name of Spartacus.
Feeling thankful, Pacrous agrees that he will do his best to help Spartacus build his army up as Rome is getting its legions together so that it can put down the slave uprising. So starts an adventure of glory and savagery that is going to be playing out across all of Italy, as Spartacus defeats the Roman armies and Pacorus brings his horsemen to victory after victory.
Can Pacrous and his slave army get out of Italy, and can he win himself the love of Gallia before Marcus Licinius Crassus, the most powerful man in Rome, goes onto the field against Spartacus? Readers can also find a map of the Parthian Empire during Pacorus’s time of the first century B.C. on the author’s home website. Parthian Dawn is the second book in the Parthian Chronicles by Peter Darman. This is the second volume in the series so if you loved the first one, be sure to check this one out and follow along with more adventures featuring Pacorus the Parthian, Gallia, the former Roman centurion Domitus, the scout Byrd, and the sorceress Dobbai as all of them fight for their lives while the clash between two of the greatest empires the ancient world has ever seen goes on.
Pacorus spent three years fighting by Spartacus’s side, and now he and his followers have gotten out of Italy after the slave rebellion was defeated. Pacorus was then made a king by the ruler of the Parthian Empire when he returned and has married the love of his life Gallia and turned the city of Dura Europos on the banks of the Euphrates his home.
However, it turns out that his new kingdom has a lot of discontent and is also surrounded by desert nomads, a hostile unit who were the sworn enemies of the Parthians. Then everything shifts once more when the King of Kings, who has united the Parthians over the decades, passes away and puts the empire into a state of uncertainty. This then turns into a full on civil war as one of the most powerful men of the empire, Narses, does what he can to take on the high crown through force.
Pacorus has to fight Narses as well as Prince Mithridates, his ally, to keep the realm together and to preserve his own crown. Then the Romans take advantage of the internal struggles of Parthia and launch their own empire invasion. Can Pacorus and the Parthian Empire make it through a conflict that is raging on all sides of them? Or will they ultimately fall to it? Read this fascinating book from Peter Darman to find out!
