Peter J Charles is a British crime and intelligence fiction author based in Winchester, England. Born in 1953, he began his working life in the Royal Air Force before joining Surrey Police in 1983. He later served as a detective, spending nine years on the Drug Squad and working across surveillance, criminal intelligence, and informant handling. Those years shaped his understanding of how investigations actually unfold: the pressure, the compromises, and the small decisions that change the direction of a case. His fiction draws on that experience, blending grounded policing with the shifting demands of modern intelligence work.
