Philip Matyszak is a published British author.
He is known for writing nonfiction works that are historical in nature and that relate to ancient Rome. He has a doctorate that he earned in Roman History from St. John’s College, Oxford. He is not only an author but also teaches ancient history on behalf of Madingley Hall Institute of Continuing Education, Cambridge University.
Philip Matyszak has held ancient history as his job and his hobby for decades. He spends a lot of his time immersed in the world of antiquity. Whenever he comes up with a story or an idea that he wants to share with the rest of the world, he goes ahead and writes about it.
Then there are other times when there is information that Philip wants and there’s no book out there that offers this that is readily available, and he decides to write that book as well. Some of his students have never been introduced to the ancient world, which he finds to be a fascinating place that he says is as different as any alternative universe but differs in the fact that it’s real. He says that he always gets excited when he goes exploring there and enjoys that there is always something new out there to find.
At different times, the author has lived on three different continents. He says that he’s also spent a wonderful year in Italy living right on top of the very material that he was writing about. He now resides in Canada with a home that is located deep in the British Columbian mountains, but says that there is a part of him that is still in Rome, somewhere out there lurking in the shadows of this ancient forum.
He is the author of several nonfiction books as well as the Panderius Papers series of fictional novels. This series started off with the debut book, The Gold of Tolosa. It was followed by The Servant of Aphrodite and then the third book, The Blood-Red Sunset.
The Gold of Tolosa is the first novel in the Panderius Papers series. If you have been looking for something new and interesting to read, check this book out!
Lucius Panderius is a war hero, knows his fine wines and is a connoisseur of both the wines and German prostitutes, and manages to be the perpetrator of the biggest gold theft in history. This book by a historian and author takes readers from the streets of Rome to the streets of Gallic Tolosa in a journey that is filled with intrigue, ambush, battle, and double-cross.
The time is 105 B.C., and Rome has been faced with its own extinction. The threats come from a large army of invading barbarians as well as a dark curse that has been working its way through the generations. It will fall to Lucius Panderius to avert both of the threats, and to try and make himself richer than Croesus in the process.
Even though this is a work of fiction, this novel is historically accurate. Through the course of its fictitious pages, it explains how enough loot to recapitalize a third-world country’s economy was taken in a theft that really did occur. Check this book out to catch all of the details for yourself!
The Servant of Aphrodite is the second novel in the Panderius Papers series by Philip Matyszak. If you liked the first book in this series or are just intrigued by history, check out this story!
It doesn’t matter whether Lucius is crossing swords with barbarian warriors or Roman magistrates, because the pace is always fast and frantic. But thankfully, this means that ancient Rome has never been more fun.
After coming back from the dead, Lucius Panderius discovers that he is back in Rome. Now he has become an unwilling participant in the snake pit of Roman politics. Whether he’s dodging assassins in the back-alleys, or ducking missiles at political rallies, this hero is affirming that the streets of his home city are just as dangerous as the battlefield.
At least on the battlefield, you are able to know who your enemies are. Rome in 104 B.C. is a city that is on the edge. It is being torn apart by social conflict and it is threatened with destruction by a massive invasion of barbarians.
To make it through the turmoil, Lucius needs to be just as ruthless and duplicitous as his enemies are, who are both shadowy and powerful. Tons of action and adventure await the reader in this fictional but historically inspired tale where Lucius Panderius does his thing and forges full steam ahead. Check it out to go on the adventure yourself!
