Phillip Schott is an author born in Germany in 1965.
His family emigrated to Canada a year later. The author grew up in Saskatoon, going back to Germany regularly to visit. He attended The University of Saskatchewan where he studied biology before switching over to veterinary medicine.
Once he graduated he moved to Winnipeg with his classmate and Lorraine, his future wife. He took a year to backpack around the world but other than that he has been with the same Winnipeg small animal practice since 1990.
Scott writing began with first a travel blog and then a vet blog. His first book to come out was titled The Accidental Veterinarian, which was a collection of non-fiction stories inspired by his practice. It was released in 2019 by ECW Press and became a best seller in Canada and was translated into five different languages.
His first novel was The Willow Wren. He also released How to Examine a Wolverine, the sequel to The Accidental Veterinarian, in 2021. The second sequel, The Battle Cry of the Siamese Kitten, was released in 2023.
He also writes cozy mystery series in the Dr. Peter Bannerman series. So far the vet and amateur detective has been the star of the first novel, Fifty-Four Pigs, followed by Six Ostriches, Eleven Huskies, and Three Bengal Kittens.
Phillipp resides in a creaky old house on the river with Lorraine, their two children, and a lot of pets. The clinic, writing and his family keeps him busy, but he also tries to spend as much time outdoors as he can. He is a fan of long-distance walking, and has completed the Inca Trail, the Laugavegur, the Hadrian’s Wall Path, and The West Highland Way. The Pandemic also turned him on to virtual walks, with the latest project helping him see how sturdy those hobbits really were with a 2,300 km trek from The Shire to Mordor.
Fifty-Four Pigs is a cozy mystery series and the first book in the Dr. Peter Bannerman series. If you loved the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency books, you’ll love this light mystery with a sense of place.
A swine barn explodes close to a lakeside Manitoba town, which puts Dr. Peter Bannerman the vet on a course to collide with murder and a conspiracy. Peter is a bit of an odd duck, as he is obsessed with logic as well as measurable facts. He puts this obsession to good application at his vet practice.
When a murder is connected to the explosion of the swine barn and his good friend Tom is the main suspect, Peter feels he must put his reasoning skills and the nose of his dog to help clear him. The situation gets darker with another murder and a series of break-ins, including at his own house and clinic, but Peter does not really know when he is out of his depth.
He likely should thanks to warnings from his brother-in-law Kevin, who’s an RCMP officer. It starts to become clear that something extraordinary is behind all this, maybe international in scope. Ultimately he finds himself out in the middle of Lake Winnipeg during a blizzard, fighting for his life and coming to a horrible realization that he has been blind to this whole time.
Will Peter survive, or will he find that he’s caught up in something too sinister to escape? Read this book from Philipp Schott to find out!
Six Ostriches is the second novel in the Dr. Peter Bannerman series by Philipp Schott. If you liked the first book, be sure to check out the second also!
It is spring in rural Manitoba, and snow is finally disappearing from the exotic animal farm. But it’s not all simple and cozy because one of the ostrich has found and swallowed a shiny object for no other reason than this is what ostriches do.
Now is the time for Dr. Peter Bannerman, vet and amateur sleuth, to shine. He removes surgically the object, which has the appearance of an ancient Viking artifact.
Not long after this, people around town are horrified by a slew of animal mutilations. This puts Peter and his sniffer dog Pippin on the hunt for answers. Peter starts to suspect that there is a link between the Viking artifact, the mutilations, and a group of white supremacists on the internet.
It isn’t too long before Peter and Pippin find themselves in over their heads. The only way to get out alive is to unmask the mastermind– before they find themselves among the victim list. Will Pippin and Peter be okay? Read this cozy mystery to find out!
