Plum Sykes is a British published author. It is the pen name used by Victoria Rowland, an English-born novelist, fashion journalist, and socialite.

She was born in London on December 4, 1969 and was raised in Sevenoaks, Kent. She earned the nickname Plum from the Victoria plum, which made sense since her name was Victoria. Her parents worked as a fashion designer and an art dealer.

Plum would attend and graduate from Oxford University’s Worcester College, where she studied modern history. She started her career off in 1993 at British Vogue, working as a fashion assistant. She would later be a contributing editor for American Vogue while working under Anna Wintour after being offered to the position and moving to America for it. She covered fashion and society for Vogue. At the same time, Victoria quickly rose to the top of the social scene of New York, where she was one of the ‘It girls’.

She burst into the literary world in 2004 with the release of Bergdorf Blondes, a bestselling ‘chick lit’ novel. It stayed on the top of the New York Times Bestseller List for sixteen weeks and was a bestseller in the United Kingdom and several other countries.

She would follow this up with The Debutante Divorcée. These books all showcase the glam world of New York, which is full of society events and fashion. They have been compared to the very popular Sex and the City books.

She would get married in 2005 to Toby Rowland, a British entrepreneur. They would get married at her family’s ancestral home where the bride wore a dress designed by Alexander McQueen, the famed fashion designer. The two had a close creative working relationship.

Plum has been open about various personal struggles she has gone through. These include her battle with anxiety disorder and agoraphobia after her children were born. She went into detail about her recovery in a 2012 article in Vogue, where she gave credit to an anxiety treatment program for assisting her to return to her full professional and social life.

She has followed her other novels up with more such as Party Girls Die in Pearls and Wives Like Us. Sykes has also written teleplays and screenplays. She works for American Vogue as a Contributing Editor to this day.

Plum resides in England with her family, which includes her husband and their two children.

Ursula wants nothing more than to get her first scoop for Cherwell, the student newspaper. She gets the help of American exchange student Nancy Feingold to try and help her get to the bottom of the case. If the two can figure out what’s going on, it could be a huge feather in Ursula’s journalistic cap.

Wives Like Us is a 2024 book by Plum Sykes. This is a witty and funny book that will draw you in from the very beginning. Kevin Kwan called this novel ‘wickedly smart, so effortless, so chic and hilarious’ that he stumbled through the night to find a new light bulb just so that he could stay up and read it past his bedtime. When a grand English country house, three rich wives, one American divorcee, two tycoons, a bereaved butler, and a pair of mini sausage dogs come together, you have a romantic comedy that is destined to entertain from start to finish. Some might see the English countryside as just having older ladies wearing tweed or Land Rovers covered in mud. These people have never been to ‘The Bottoms’.

This is the Oxfordshire county where there are roses everywhere, as readers make their way to the Cotswold villages of Little Bottom, Middle Bottom, Great Bottom, and Monkton Bottom. They were also annexed by a new type of female in this social satire– the Country Princess.

After a huge fight about a missing suite of diamonds, Tata Hawkins made her dramatic exit from Monkton Bottom Manor. Going along with her was her daughter Minty and Ian Palmer, Executive Butler. The two made the choice to decamp to The Old Coach House so that her husband Bryan would get taught a lesson.

Unfortunately, things do not end up going according to plan. Bryan dips off to Venice with a bikini designer, and Tata is trying to make friends with the glam American divorcée Selby Fairfax next door, but she’s resisting her overtures. Meanwhile the best friends that Tata could usually rely on, Sophie and Fernanda, have their own heartache going on and are completely distracted.

The Pennybacker-Hoare sisters are also planning to do what they can to block Tata from getting her crown back as the Queen of Bottoms. In a case of rich people problems, Ian is finding that he doesn’t have anywhere to put his collection of vintage Gucci loafers.

Can Tata get back to the Manor with all of its comforts? Will the Pennybacker-Hoare sisters come out on top? Can Selby find the man of her dreams? Will Ian be able to bring harmony back to The Bottoms? Read this incredible book from Plum Sykes to find out by getting a copy of Wives Like Us.
