Polly Heron is a published British author. She is also known by the names Susannah Bavin and Maisie Thomas for writing. For Maisie, she writes the Railway Girls WW2 saga series, a bestselling series. Under the Susannah Bavin name, she has penned four stand-alone sagas as well as a new WW2 saga series called The Home Front Girls.
She is known for writing The Surplus girls series, a 1920s saga series. The series first got started with the publication of The Surplus Girls, the debut novel, in 2020. The series focuses on a group of young women whose lives where forever changed by the arrival of the Great War. The huge loss of life among the soldiers ended up meaning that many of the girls lost potential husbands and a generation of young ladies found that they were in the position of having to face a future where they fend for themselves, without the necessary education or training.
Polly Heron is married and resides on the coast of North Wales with her husband and their two rescue cats. She has originally come from Chorlton-cum-Hardy in Manchester. Her family has resided there for several generations and she’s included it as the setting for her family sagas.
