Poppy Alexander is the pseudonym of Sarah Waights, an American romance fiction novelist best known for her inspirational romantic fiction works that are usually set in idyllic country settings. She was just five when she penned her first story. But all she remembers about it is a big red apple and a squirrel. There was a long break in her writing career as she got older and took all manner of detours. After going to college and studying classical music, she decided to be a PR professional. During this time, she worked in freelance journalism, political lobbying, campaigning, and anything related to public relations. The good thing was that her work involved a lot of writing even though it was not fiction. ‘

At some point during her thirties, Poppy Alexander got tired of writing magazine articles and brochure copy. Nonetheless, she still knew that she loved writing in any format, even though fiction was always close to her heart. By this time, she had already started working part-time since she also had started a family. With a little bit of time on her hands, she began to bring back storytelling into her daily routine. Seeing her passion for writing, one of her friends told her that she needed to enter the Orion and Good Housekeeping Novel Writing Competition. It was a tough competition with more than 3500 entries and as such, she never expected to go anywhere. But she was surprised to learn that she was one of the three runners-up and started to believe that writing long-form fiction could be something she could do. Given the doors that opened when she won that competition, she soon got an agent and soon enough, she had a publishing deal.

Poppy Alexander published her first novel under Sarah Waights her real name as she never thought one could even write under a pseudonym. She published the novel with a small publisher even as she had always desired to publish with one of the majors such as Orion. Thankfully, the sales of the book were respectable enough but she never stopped looking for a bigger publisher. She was convinced she could do better with a series of novels set in a fictional community she called Havenbury. Rosie Howard her second pseudonym came when she was negotiating with a publisher about her new brand as the author of novels set in the Havenbury world. When it came to writing 25 Days ‘til Christmas, she once again needed a name that would not be associated with the Havenbury universe and hence she decided to take up the name Poppy Alexander.

Poppy Alexander now makes her home in an English Village of West Sussex from which she gets a lot of material for her novels. When she is not writing her bestselling novels, she loves to spend time cooking for and catching up with friends and family. She also loves to take walks with her dog on the beautiful country roads where she loves, to enjoy a glass of wine or sip on a coffee alongside her husband. For Alexander, it is all about the simple things, which she also loves to incorporate into her writings.

Poppy Alexander published The Littlest Library which tells the fascinating story of a woman who makes a library out of a little red phone box and by doing so brings together a town. Jess Metcalf is content with her predictable and quiet life but when she loses her grandmother and her job too, she struggles to cope. But she will not let her travails keep her down and is determined to forge a new beginning. Unable to let go of her grandmother’s cherished books, she dumps them into a suitcase and takes them with her to the English countryside where she has rented a tiny cottage. She is surprised to discover an old red phone box on the property. Since she misses her old job, she turns the phone box into the smallest library in England, hoping to give back to her new community. It is not long before the library is bringing the villagers together and even drawing her handsome but grumpy neighbor out of his shell. But will she be able to leave her old life behind, follow her heart, and make the new village home?

25 Days ‘Til Chrismas is a tingly feel-good novel that Poppy Alexander published in 2019. Once upon a time, Kate Potter was obsessed with Christmas and used to wrap her presents in September and bake mince pies on Halloween since she just could not wait for Christmas. But then her husband was discharged from the military and disappeared and she no longer can stand the Holidays. She is too lonely but does not believe she is ready to get into another relationship. She knows that Jack her son needs the Christmas holidays to be blockbuster just like she needs something big to happen so that she can change her life. Since she knows a miracle is unlikely, she has decided to make her own. As Kate counts down to Christmas, she realizes that it is impossible to plan for the unexpected. When her path crosses with that of a lonely man, there are fireworks.

Poppy Alexander published Storybook Ending, one of her most intriguing novels in 2024. It tells the story of a widowed children’s fiction author who moves to the English countryside and into a cottage. It is not long before, she meets the brooding and handsome blacksmith neighbor. She has made a name for herself writing novels with happily ever after stories but in real life, romance has never panned out for her. She had believed she had finally made it when tragedy struck and took her husband a few months earlier, leaving her a widow. Soon after moving into Storybook Cottage with her cat, she finds out that she is pregnant. She hopes for a new start in the small village with its love for village fetes, cricket matches, and duckpond. Her neighbor is Gabriel a brooding blacksmith who she soon realizes is the lord of the local manor house who could take her house away if he so wished. Unfortunately, it seems that is what he wants to do, yet she is still attracted to the man. Deep down, she believes he may just be the man who could save her in more ways than one.
