The main character in this book is a young woman named Sutton Tate. She is dealing with a lot in her life right now as her mother has passed away. The book starts out with the funeral and Sutton is left to process her own memories and honor her mom.

Her mother left her a bucket list with activities that she hoped that her daughter would be able to do as part of the next year. It is one of the last tangible things that Sutton has from her, and she’s determined to do all of the activities that her mother wants her to do.

At the top of the list is pending the summer with one of her relatives. In fact. the relative is someone that she hasn’t heard about before, a great-uncle that lives in Destiny Falls, Michigan. It’s a very small town and while Sutton has her doubts about going, she decides that it will only be for a few months so why not check it out.

Her uncle owns a tourist attraction there called the Mystery Cabin, and Sutton is going to fill time by working there. That’s an unexpected silver lining to the visit, as she’ll be able to make a little money while working there. She’ll also get the chance to connect more with her family, or so she thinks. It’s extra incentive to go there as her great-uncle is one of the last living relatives that she has.

Sutton packs up her things and heads out to Destiny Falls, uncertain as to what to expect. But once she gets there, she finds out that it just isn’t like she thought it would be. Her great-uncle is constantly keeping her busy and the shop always seems like it has something more to do once you finish doing one thing.

There’s also an attractive man Teller who works for the Cabin as a handyman that she thinks might be her dream guy. When you add into the mix the son of the mayor and hanging out with some new gal pals, Sutton is set up for the summer of her life! She’s having a lot of fun, but what will Sutton do when the summer is over?

Everything starts to go off track. however. when she arrives in Destiny Falls, Michigan, and quickly gets into a car accident with an expensive SUV.

She’s also surprised when a man climbs out of the car that is rather distinguished. Hudson Hayes is a James Beard winner and a restauranteur, a man known for being pulled together and always having a plan. Lyla is simply stunned, because this could be her dream man.

The bill for the accident is lofty. and she has to dip into her savings to pay for the damage not only to her car but to his too. This lands her temporarily stuck in Destiny Falls. She takes a job at a place called the Mystery Cabin to make ends meet and posts herself up in an apartment that so happens to be placed above Hudson Hayes’ very own restaurant.

Lyla is disappointed by the circumstances, but quickly makes friends. She needs this year off to find herself, and Lyla knows that things will turn around. She simply needs to save and stay focused on the goal of figuring things out. It’s tough to do that when you have an attractive man like Hudson around.
