Main character Dante has found himself in Te Kohe, New Zealand, and is excited about his prospects. The small coastal town seems like the perfect place for him to start over and find a new beginning in life. He could have gone anywhere, but this was the place that he chose simply because it seems so idyllic and suited to the life that he wants to create.

The possibilities that are stretching out before him seem endless, but Dante knows what he wants to do. He doesn’t have any grand plans of starting up a bed and breakfast, or taking on a little bookshop to renovate. He has no plans with sparking up some type of romance with the ladies in this country, where a single girl or a mother or her own struggling to make it by.

The only thing that he wants to do is do whatever he can to try and put his old career behind him. Dante has not always lived the cleanest existence and there’s a lot of dead bodies in the past. He’s trying to live in the moment and just wants to be left alone here. But for a former assassin, there’s only so far that you can go before life catches up to you.

It appears that Dante’s plan of starting over is about to hit some bumps in the road. Dante is a lot of things, but one thing that he is no longer is an assassin. He’s done his best to start over, picking up and moving halfway around the world. Now he identifies as more than just a contract killer. He is someone who likes to garden, and has even adopted a cat into his life.

After a busy life of killing people, Dante has had enough of it all. He just wants to leave the adrenaline packed rush of his old life behind and be a new person with an entirely new life. No one has even heard of the small town in New Zealand he has taken on as his own, and that’s the way he likes it.

Here there is no drama and there aren’t any questions. Best of all, there are no bodies. There is no one around from his old life to draw him back in and no authorities looking for him since he’s left his old ways behind.

Things are going swimmingly, but of course Dante’s luck is not to last. When the orchid convention decides to come by the town, Dante finds himself suddenly involved in plenty of intrigue, suspects, and red herrings– the last thing that he wants.

As if this were not enough to deal with, Dante is going to have to take on a variety of new problems. These involve dealing with a woman from the past, issues with his cat, and the very scary possibility of going on a first date with another person.

The former assassin is going to have to take all of this on while also trying to embrace his new way of living. The old him would have taken on these problems in the same way and put them to bed for good. Now he’s going to have to find a different way of dealing with things that is hopefully more effective and lets him keep his new quiet existence here.

Who would have thought that orchids could be such a bother? Dante is going to have to do his best to deal with all of this chaos coming his way and keep his cool.
