Rick Wood
Rick Wood is a British author who writes stories meant to frighten and entertain. He has a clear ability to build characters that feel like real people, even when those characters face very strange and scary events. His protagonists are not perfect heroes, and that makes them easier to root for. Readers often find themselves caring about what happens next because Wood takes the time to show who these people are before the horror begins.
What makes his writing enjoyable is the way he balances tense moments with quieter, more human scenes. He does not rush into terror or rely on sudden shocks alone. Instead he lets the story breathe in some places and then speeds up in others, which keeps the pacing interesting without feeling messy. This back and forth between calm and chaos is one of his strongest skills as a writer.
Wood also has a gift for creating plots that feel simple on the surface but have enough turns to stay engaging. He does not need complicated twists or fancy language to hold attention. The narrative moves forward in a way that feels natural, and each scene builds on the last one without losing the reader. That straightforward approach, paired with his attention to character, makes his horror stories both readable and memorable.
He has found a way to write stories that feel personal to him while still connecting with people from many different countries. He does not chase trends or try to copy what is popular at the moment. Instead he pulls from his own fears, interests, and sense of humor, which makes his work feel honest. That honesty translates across cultures because genuine emotion is something most readers can recognize.
His ability to entertain a global audience comes from focusing on universal feelings like fear, confusion, and the desire to survive. A reader in Brazil or Japan can understand a character who is scared of what hides in a dark room or worried about someone they love. Wood adds small details that feel specific to his British background, but he never lets those details block the bigger emotional picture. This balance allows his books to travel well without losing what makes them his own.
Rick Wood shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to write new stories and develop fresh ideas for future books. Readers can expect more original horror from him in the months and years ahead. His best work may still be on its way.
Early and Personal Life
Rick Wood grew up as a big fan of scary stories. His love for horror started when he was a child and his mother bought him Goosebumps books to encourage him to read. That plan worked well and opened the door to a lifelong passion.
As a teenager, he began watching as many horror movies on VHS as he could find, often staying up late into the night. He later attended Staffordshire University and graduated in 2011 with a degree in Scriptwriting. From there he continued his education by completing a Master’s in Creative Writing and then a PhD focused on demonic possession in horror literature, which he finished in 2024.
Throughout these years, his early love for being spooked, scared, or shocked turned into a serious writing career. He now lives in Loughborough, where he works hard on horror and thriller novels. His journey from a child reading Goosebumps to a university graduate with a doctorate shows how his early inspiration grew into a dedicated craft.
Writing Career
Rick Wood began his writing career in 2016 with several series launched that year, including Sean Mallon and Edward King. His first book, The Art of Murder, came out in 2016 followed closely by Redemption of the Damned, I Have the Sight, and Descendant of Hell. That same year he also started the Sensitives series, which grew to eight books by 2020.
He has since written across many horror subgenres with series like Chronicles of the Infected, Cia Rose, and Rogue Exorcist, the latter of which will reach its fifth book in 2026. Wood also publishes stand alone novels and short works such as The Understudy and Death of the Honeymoon, plus multiple anthologies and Blood Splatter Books including titles like He Eats Children and Zombie Psycho Women. He followed this up in 2026 with Searching for Life and The Measure of Moses, and he continues to write with more stories ahead.
My Exorcism Killed Me
Rick Wood’s paranormal horror book “My Exorcism Killed Me” came out on October 27, 2017. Blood Splatter Press served as its publisher. This title stands as the second book in the author’s Sensitives series.
A person’s worst demons often come from their own deepest fears. Julian and Derek have successfully performed many exorcisms over the years, yet one case still haunts them. Anna was an eleven year old girl they could not save, and her death has stayed in the back of their minds as a painful reminder. Now something from that past has returned, and this time the threat may not come from hell but from inside their own memories.
Readers will find this story hard to put down once started. The book keeps its tension high from beginning to end. Someone who enjoys past regrets mixing with supernatural scares will likely appreciate it. This review suggests giving the novel a try.
Questions for the Devil
Rick Wood wrote the paranormal horror book “Questions for the Devil.” Blood Splatter Press released this title on August 24, 2018. It is the fifth book in the author’s Sensitives series.
Oscar has traveled to many places looking for answers to three big questions. He wants to know why he is alive, why he has his special ability, and what being a sensitive really means. His search brings him to Edinburgh to meet a man who might help, but the truth he finds could be hard to hear. He starts to wonder if his journey was just a way to run from his fears, and now those fears are close behind.
Many will find this book both thoughtful and unsettling. The main character’s search for personal answers adds real weight to the horror. It keeps someone turning pages while also making them think. This review recommends the novel to anyone who likes scary stories with heart.
