Robert Isaacs is a published American author.

This author has been through a fairly eventful life. He was in the Okavango delta where he was able to duck an angry hippo, evaded tear gas on the Mount of Olives, held marshmallows over to roast over cooling lava in the Guatemalan highlands, and has been run over by a boat somewhere off of Australia’s west coast.

When he was younger, he supported himself working as a juggler and a unicyclist on the San Francisco streets, but eventually he turned to music. Throughout thirty years, he conducted in places like Carnegie Hall and the Cook Islands. He released a dozen CDs and even earned a Grammy nomination. He entered the writing world with his 2026 book, It’s Hard to Be an Animal.

Henry Parsons is making his way through Central Park, enjoying a blind date with Molly Brent. She is sweet and hilarious and being with her is leading to him feeling the most hopeful that he has been in years. Everything is going well when a migratory warbler tells him that he needs to go ‘f*** off’.

Henry is a gentle soul who is already fairly troubled by humans being unkind. He brushes off the moment and dismisses it as just being a simple hallucination. She wants to investigate and he wants to go on a second date, so he goes after her into an abandoned tunnel under the West Fourth Street Station.

There they discover a body and the killers also end up finding them too. It’s about to be the scariest week that he’s ever had in his life, and this is a guy who is generally cautious. But he’s about to find some additional courage and inspiration from a pair of betta fish and his neighbor’s Pomeranian, who may end up providing the wisdom that Henry needs in order to finally exert his own voice.
