Robert Macfarlane is a British published author, a nature writer and a literary critic.

He is known for writing bestselling books that have won prizes that are about landscape, nature, and people and place. These include Mountains of the Mind, The Wild Place, The Old Ways, Holloway, Landmarks, The Lost Words: A Spell Book and Underland: A Deep Time Journey.

The work that he has done has won prizes from places all around the world, have been translated into different languages for readers to enjoy, and his books have also been adapted for television, film, stage, and radio.

Robert has also collaborated with many different artists, actors, photographers, film makers, and musicians, such as Willem Dafoe, Stanley Donwood, and more. The American Academy of Arts and Letters awarded him the EM Forster Prize for Literature in 2017.

The author attended Nottingham High School, followed by Pembroke College, Cambridge and Magdalen College, and Oxford. He is a fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and keeps busy by teaching as part of the English faculty at Cambridge.
