Sara DiVello is a true crime fiction novelist best known for the novel Broadway Butterfly. Before she made her name with Broadway Butterfly, DiVello had published her debut novel Where in the OM Am I in 2013.
Outside of her fiction writing, Sara DiVello has also had several of her works published in prestigious publications such as Woman’s Day, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Redbook, and Elle. When she is not writing articles or her fiction, she loves teaching yoga, gardening, cooking, and going for leisurely walks with Pelu her rescue mutt. She is also a passionate lover and reader of mystery and loves to talk about all things books, the craft of writing, the joy of reading, and connecting readers with their best authors or introducing them to other good authors. Sara is the founder of a series to bring awareness to her favorite authors and genres – Mystery and Thriller Author Interview Series. As for the origin of her most popular work Broadway Butterfly, Sara DiVello got the idea when she was visiting her folks in Philadelphia for Thanksgiving. While they were having turkey sandwiches and catching up with cousins, uncles, and aunts her uncle told of how they used to sneak into the old Stotesbury Estate to go smoke cigarettes and drink beer. His antenna perked up, he convinced about 11 people to go visit the old estate. While it was so weird to stand among the ruins of fifty-foot pillars, headless statues, and remnants of a fountain, she felt that she needed to tell the story of Whitemarsh Hall. DiVello learned everything she could about the estate and at the end of the day decided that it was such a fascinating story that needed to be told. When she learned that it was also the scene of an ancient unsolved crime, it strengthened her resolve even further.
Sara DiVello’s Broadway Butterfly is a work set in New York during the 1920s that tells of one of the darkest murders of the era where secrets, politics, and power conspire to bury the truth. In the roaring 20s, the body of Dot King, a scandalous flapper is found in an apartment in Midtown Manhattan with a fortune of jewels missing and a bottle of chloroform by her bedside table. The murder makes headlines all over the city even as it draws a clutch of justice seekers, parasites, and lovers seeking to know the truth. Among these is Julia Harpman a crime reporter with the Daily News, the victim’s keeper of secrets, closest confidant, and Harlem maid Ella Bradford, and John D. Coughlin the justice-seeking NYPD detective. Adding fuel to an already volatile situation is a cagey sugar daddy with many secrets, a politically connected socialite from Philadelphia, a sultry dancer from Broadway, Dot’s dicey gigolo lover, and a bootlegger from Atlantic City. From Broadway’s sordid underbelly and its glittering lights to the machinations of some very powerful men, Julia will do everything for justice. But what she finds is that there might be something underneath it all that might be darker than murder.
Where in the OM Am I is a fascinating memoir by Sara DiVello that tells her own story. Looking for greener grass she had shuffled from one company to another hoping to find tranquility, peace, and an escape from ever-growing anxiety due to a crazy boss and a very demanding job. When a neighbor she had always tried to avoid invites her to a yoga class, she takes it. During the class, she has an unexpected moment of clarity as she realizes that she loves yoga and decides to become a yoga. Sara takes readers on an intriguing trip through the world of corporate machinations in addition to her life as a student of yoga and yogi. As would be expected there are many fiascos with her coworkers and her boss as she struggles to fit in with the different cliques and personalities.
