Sarah D’Almeida is a pen name used by Sarah A. Hoyt. She also uses the pen name of Elise Hyatt for science fiction and fantasy stories.

She was born in Portugal more years back than she would like to admit to! She was born in a then very small place called Granja, or ‘lugar da Granja;’ where lugar roughly means hamlet but literally translates as ‘place’ in the allegiance and fiefdom of Aguas-Santas (Holy Waters) in the council of Maia in the district of Porto.

While all of the designations have now changed, Sarah likes to tell people that she grew up somewhere between Elizabethan and Victorian England with just a bit of the twentieth century thrown in. This might be exaggerating, but not by much.

The truth is that the author did go to a village school and she really did learn to write with a quill pen. She wrote her stories with ballpoint pen at home and wrote her first book in ballpoint in pen when she was around six years old.

It was fairly easy since it was an Enid Blyton rip-off, but since she had wanted to be an angel when she grew up, settling for a novelist instead seemed like a good trade off. Once this was decided it didn’t take long at all, just twenty years for the author to get a degree from the University of Porto.

Sarah found out that employment for English majors can be scant and so moved to the United States, and changed her name. She would get married and worked at many different jobs from retail clerk to multilingual translator.

Sarah also had two children with her husband, both sons. They also have a good amount of cats and the author enjoys reading far more than what she says ‘is good for any human being’. They reside in Colorado with their four indoor cats and a variety of cats who are not there who come to beg for food at the door and take advantage of the facilities during the summer and winter months. The author jokes that she has been telling lies for fun and profit since 1994 since before that she did it for free.

Sarah D’Almeida is the creator and the author of the Musketeers Mystery series. The series starts off with Death of a Musketeer and keeps in the tradition of the original Musketeers characters and tone.

While investigating this mystery, the Musketeers may just find that their faith in humanity is shaken.
