Sasscer Hill is American bestselling author of Romance, Thriller, and Mystery novels. She was born in Washington DC, United States. The author has been involved in horse racing as a breeder and amateur jockey most of her life. Now as an author, it is only natural that most of her books are themed on horse racing.

Hill has a history as a horse farm owner, amateur steeplechase jockey, and for 22 years she has ridden in fox hunts. The author owned and operated horse breeding farm in Maryland for some 30 years where she raised bred horses. For Love and Honor was one of the best horses Hill bred that won $418,000 during the New York racing at Saratoga in Belmont and Aqueduct.

The authors love for horses can be traced to Samuel Ogle, who served as the colonial governor of Maryland during the 1770s. He pioneered horse racing in North America. Sasscer Hill love for horses and her unique skills in steeplechase racing has prompted many book readers and even critics to compare her to the famous British horse racing writer, Dick Francis.

Sasscer Hill made her first appearance in the publication world when the first book in Nikki Latrelle Racing Mystery series, Full Mortality (2010) was published. The second book Racing from Death was released in 2012. The author has written several collections, novels, nonfiction, and novellas.

Sasscer Hill novels have been nominated for Macavity, Agatha, and Tony Ryan Book Awards. In 2010, the author’s first book Full Mortality (2010) was a nominee for the Agatha Award Best First Novel.

Full Mortality (2010)

Full Mortality is the first book in Nikki Latrelle Racing Mystery first published on 1st August 2010 by Wild Spirit Press. The story introduces the main character Nikki Latrelle who gets a lifetime chance to ride amongst the favorites in stake races. Unfortunately, her dream fails when a mysterious person kills her horse the night before the contest. It appears that the hand of a mighty evil is at work at Maryland Laurel Park race track. Later when Nikki stumbles upon a victim of a gunshot, she becomes the prime suspect in the murder case. Now after being framed and possibly facing a murder charge, Nikki is suspended from the race tracks.

Even when she is deprived of her income and job, she cannot just leave an ill-tempered, mistreated racehorse that is destined to the slaughter house. Nikki and her filly horse end up at a seedy stable with a group of drunks, felons, and drug addicts. With some unexpected assist from a recovering addict, an old groom, and a wholesale meat seller, Nikki manages to follow a twisted trail of insurance fraud and betting scam. However, with all the odds set against her, can she put the real criminals where they deserve (behind bars)? Moreover, will she finally clear her name?

The author, Sasscer Hill has written an intriguing mystery as the first series installment set out in the thoroughbred horse race world with a plot as fast as a graded stakes winner. The novels feature quirky characters that interact in the most amazing but sometimes frightening ways.

Racing From Death (2015)

When Nikki and Lorna Doone arrive they are greeted with alarming series of events, there is a man with haunted eyes, strange noises in the woods, a smeared shoved from the forest, and a body of a burn victim lies lifelessly outside the tracks. Nikki unease turns into discomposure when Bobby Duvayne bedazzles Lorna with his sexuality and dangerous supply of illegal drugs.

An old family secret, a hidden meth lab, a body secretly buried in the woods years ago, and Lorna kidnapping set Nikki into a race course against death.
