Susan Gable is a USA Today bestselling author of romance who loves to call herself a bookaholic. When she was just four years old, she was enrolled in the Weekly Book Reader Club by her mother and she has been hooked on books since then.
The author was born and brought up in New Jersey, even though she has now lived in Erie Pennsylvania for more than two decades.
Unlike many authors, she made her debut writing fiction for series established by other authors. Her first novel was the 2002 published work “The Baby Plan” under the “Nine Months Late” series by Janice Kay Johnson.
Over the years, she would become a very successful author who published several works with Harlequin Superromance. Susan Gable has also independently published her novels in addition to her traditional publishing endeavors.
The author has been a finalist and winner of a range of prestigious awards including a RITA and an RWA Golden Heart contest.
She has been a Waldenbooks bestselling author and several of her books received nominations for the Romantic Times Bookclub Magazine’s Superromance of the Year.
For Susan Gable, books have been a constant companion ever since she was a child. She spent her childhood in a house with voracious readers. Her mother used to bring her books, the same way many other parents brought their children sweets.
She used to walk all over with a book in hand and hence it was not a surprise that she was deemed the Class Bookworm and would end up a Valedictorian.
She loved keeping a journal and writing stories in elementary school and graduated to poetry when she was a teenager. In fact, she was responsible for writing her alma mater’s new lyrics during this time.
She would then go to college and thereafter taught elementary school for more than a decade. While she loved being a teacher, she still dreamed of becoming a fiction author.
While pregnant with her son, she began writing a young adult novel but ultimately gave up. When she moved to Pennsylvania she learned that it was not so easy to get a teacher’s certification.
After homeschooling her son and teaching in a private school for a year, she turned to fiction writing to restore her sanity.
Susan Gable began writing fanfiction as her first attempt at becoming an author. She has said that she learned a lot about writing from fellow fan fiction authors.
In December 1999, she made a New Year’s Resolution to learn everything she could about romance writing.
She made the vow to sell a novel by the time she was 40, and even signed up for a romance writing class online and joined the Pennwriters and the Romance Writers of America.
Even though she had the usual ups and downs, she finally managed to finish penning her manuscript and began getting rejections from publishers and agents but soldiered on.
In the meantime, she had been invited to write for Janice Kay Johnson’s series “Nine Months Later.” In 2002, she finally got the call telling her that “The Baby Plan” would be published by Harlequin Superromance.
Largely, she has decided to go Indie since she loves being in complete control of her creative endeavors.
“A Hero to Keep” by Susan Gable is the story of comic artist Greg Hawkins. He has always been interested in using art therapy to help young adults with the stress of battling cancer among other problems.
At the moment, he is based in the Erie University Children’s Center. But he may have to find another base for his endeavors in addition to finding new funding for his program. The university pulled out of funding his work but he will be kept busy enough working with his cancer patients in the meantime.
On the other hand, Shannon Vanderhood has been quietly watching how Greg interacts with a social worker and his oncology patients. She had been trying to make a determination if he was the best person to work with Ryan her nephew.
The latter had come to live with her a couple of months back after his mother who was Shannon’s sister died. His father was subsequently arrested on suspicion of being responsible for the murder. Ryan had been a witness to the murder but has refused to speak about it or about anything to do with it.
Greg had been working with children such as Ryan and empowering them so that they can find their voices. Reluctantly, Shannon makes the decision that Greg is just the man she needs to work with Ryan.
Susan Gable’s novel “A Family to Keep” is the story of Amelia Young a doctor who believes she knows what trajectory to take in her life. Her map does not involve getting married as she has already had a daughter named Jordan.
Funny thing is that she got the kid through artificial insemination and could not be happier with where she is. But then Jordan gets a deadly disease diagnosis and the only way she can save her is if they can procure a none marrow transplant from a matching family member or cord blood from a blood brother or sister.
Amelia never thought she would ever need a man for anything but she could not have been more wrong. Finn Hawkins is a chef that made anonymous sperm donations and never expected to ever be contacted.
When some strange woman turns up at his doorstep demanding that he save his child his whole world is upended. Things get very complicated when the daughter shows up and feelings start welling to the surface.
Jordan and Amelia soon start questioning the Family Plan they had made for themselves.
“A Promise to Keep” by Susan Gable is a thrilling novel that tells the story of Hayden Hawkins that made a deathbed promise to Ian his brother. He had vowed to watch over Nick, Ian’s son, and Ronni’s mother.
While Hayden initially had feelings for Ronni, everything changed when she had gotten into a relationship with his brother only to have her heart broken.
Even though he has been avoiding her for the longest time, Nick his nephew is in trouble and will need his guidance. However, getting close to Ronni stirs up old memories and emotions and results in some intense chemistry.
The last thing Ronni wanted was to get into a romantic relationship with Hayden a former marine who is notorious for not sticking around in relationships.
Hayden cannot help but feel sorry for her and soon she starts thinking that there may be more to the woman than he once thought. He believes she is deserving of happiness but the path to get there may be full of all manner of hurdles.
