Teresa Marrone is an accomplished cookbook author and naturalist who is also passionate about the outdoors. She has put out a bunch of books on nature, wild edibles, and foraging in addition to regional literature and food guides that have won her legions of adoring fans. From her home in Minneapolis Minnesota, she pens works that have become known for their stunning photography and comprehensive information. This has made her a trusted source for adventurers who need to get out and explore the natural world.
As one of the leading naturalists in the United States, Marrone has said that nothing came easy. She has been gathering and preparing wild edibles for more than two decades. It was during this time that she gathered much of the information about the wild and nature that she now incorporates into her novels. She has also worked for several outdoor-themed books as Managing Editor in addition to penning several titles that include regional cookbooks and outdoors-related books. Teresa Marrone is also an author of articles on cooking and wild foods in addition to some photography work that has been featured in a bunch of magazine articles. In most of her books, whether it be cookbooks or field guides, she usually combines her interests and various skills into easy-to-use, concise, and clear work to help readers appreciate the diversity of the settings.
It all started while Teresa Marrone was going to college in northern Wisconsin and got interested in wild foods and foraging. Together with her classmates, she used to hunt everything from deer to blueberries to mushrooms. When she moved to Minneapolis, she got into the world of publishing and printing and got a job with The Hunting & Fishing Library where she worked as a managing editor of the outdoor-themed books. In 1987, Teresa Marrone published Dressing & Cooking Wild Game under HFL which is still in print to date. Since that time, she has published more than a dozen cookbooks working as an independent author. She is also the photographer and author of several field ID guides on fruits and wild berries from 4 different regions in the United States. Teresa is also a co-author of several photographic field ID guides that are all about mushrooms.

Mushrooming is a rewarding and popular pastime but it can only be enjoyed if you have the right information. In 2020, Teresa Marrone published Mushrooms of the Upper Midwest. Like most of her works, this is a perfect visual guide that comes with easy-to-understand text and hundreds of full-color photographs. The author delves into the characteristics of more than 400 species of wild mushrooms found in the wilds of Wisconsin, Illinois, South Dakota, Indiana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, and Iowa. Like in the previous work, Marrone makes it easier for her readers to identify the mushrooms as she organizes everything by color and shape. She also throws in the Top Toxics and Top Edibles sections to make it easier for the reader to determine what they can safely eat and what could make them sick or kill them. Yet again the authors Kathy Yerich and Tesa Marrone white for both experienced mushroom seekers and beginners too. It is a phenomenal guide and resource that would be great for intermediate and beginner wild food foragers and mycologist. Marrone describes the characteristics of the mushrooms starting with the most sought-after/common/edible mushrooms. Lastly, she finishes with photographs and descriptions of toxic and uncommon mushrooms that the forager needs to avoid.
