The Mackenzies series is a renowned book series of historical fiction and adult fiction novels. It is comprised of a total of 10 novels and 4 novellas, which were released between the years 2009 and 2018. This series is written by a NY Times bestselling writer named Jennifer Ashley. In some parts of its publishing, the series is also known by the title Mackenzies & McBrides series. Each and every book of this series is rich, eccentric, dangerous, and powerful in its own sense. Author Jennifer has stories primarily in Scotland and England during the 1880s. All the stories depict the adventures and the romances of the Mackenzie family. The central characters are described as Hart, Mac, Ian, and Cam Mackenzie, who are mentioned as being torture geniuses. They love to indulge in dark and sensual love games. The Mackenzies are known to have numerous affairs, each of which is filled with hardcore and passionate sex. They are believed to be wealthy, powerful, eccentric, and dangerous individuals, who end up romancing a woman they set their eyes upon, no matter how much the woman resists or refuses to romance with them. It is generally considered that a woman seen with the Mackenzies is bound to have her life ruined at one point or the other. Rumors about the tragic violence, dark appetites of the Mackenzies, and their harsh treatment of the mistresses spread far and wide all over Scotland and Victorian England. They are also known to be involved in numerous scandals, but no harm comes to them because of their rich and powerful status. Even the books form part of the series, they can also be read individually as a standalone story is described in every book independent from all others. The debut book of the Mackenzies series written by author Jennifer Ashley is entitled ‘The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie’. It was released by the Leisure Book publishing in the year 2009. Author Jennifer has done the setting of this book’s story in London, England; Paris, France; and Castle Kilmorgan, Scotland, during the time of the year 1881. The lead characters depicted in this book include Ian Mackenzie, Isabella Scranton, Daniel Mackenzie, Kilmorgan Duke, Cameron Mackenzie, Lloyd Fellows, Roland Mackenzie, Beth Ackerley, etc. At the start of this book’s story, it is shown that Ian Mackenzie is the youngest brother among the Mackenzie siblings. He is notorious for his mad deeds and is referred to as Mad Mackenzie. Ian has spent most of his time growing up in an asylum. Whoever sees him tends to agree that he is freakingly odd. Another quality that Ian Mackenzie possesses is that of being very handsome and hard. He seems to have great interests in beautiful women and Ming pottery. Beth Ackerley is introduced in the story as a widow, who suddenly acquires a huge fortune. Beth decides that she is not going to have anymore drama and sadness in her life as she has already experienced enough of both. Her father was an alcoholic, who used to make her work for most of the daytime. Also, her mother used to be ill all the time and Beth had to do her nursing until she died. And now that she has become rich, Beth wishes to gather all the money and move to a peaceful place. She thinks of traveling to exciting places, learning art, and spending time in cherishing her short married life with her deceased husband. But, when Ian Mackenzie sees her for the first time, he feels to make her his mistress forever. From this point onwards, Beth’s life undergoes a drastic change, making her face difficulties and challenges wherever she goes in an attempt to move as far as possible from Ian Mackenzie.

The next interesting story of the series is entitled ‘Lady Isabell’s Scandalous Marriage’. This book was published by the Berkley Sensation publishing in 2010. Jennifer Ashely has set this novel too in 1881, in the Scottish Highlands, Paris, and London. The primary characters mentioned in this novel’s description include Isabella Scranton, Daniel Mackenzie, Ian Mackenzie, Ainsley Douglas, Beth Ackerley, Hart Mackenzie, Cameron Mackenzie, Mac Mackenzie, Kilmorgan Duke, etc. At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that around 6 years ago, Lady Isabella Scranton had made a scandal by when she eloped on the come out ball night with the notorious Mac Mackenzie. She was just 18 years old at that time. Then three years after this incident, she became a part of another scandal when she left Lord Mac and ended her marriage with him. At the present time, Mac Mackenzie comes up as a charismatic man willing to seduce Lady Isabella and make her fall for his charisma and style. He is determined to take Isabella to his bed by acting like a gentleman. But, Isabella raises the bar even higher by agreeing to pose nude for Mac’s erotic painting. This act of hers proves that she too is hungry for the rake’s passionate love. When Mac begins to paint, Isabella finds it very difficult to resist the light strokes of the handsome artist. Someone else is also interested in the beautiful Isabella and watching the two very closely. When Mac becomes aware of this person’s activities and forging of this painting, he decides to become the protector of Isabella. He promises to her that he will not leave her out of his sight even for a single moment, and does not care if she likes it or not.
