He could have some luck if he found a bottle-headed titled gentleman and he thinks he has the resourcefulness to do just that. Nicholas Sinclair has recently come back into town following the death of his estranged father. He has been away for the better part of two decades and as the new Duke, he knows he is expected to marry and have a child as soon as possible. However, he has had some horrific experiences fighting in the great war which are causing him recurring nightmares. He goes to the town’s marriage mart looking to find an obedient and docile wife. The Reverend Shackleford is shocked when Grace, his daughter, gets a proposal from the duke. But he is still happy even though he knows the duke is flattering his daughter by calling her dutiful, meek, and respectful. However, he never could have thought that Grace and her unruly behavior could end up ruining her family.

The second novel of The Shackleford Sisters series of novels by Beverley Watts is Temperance. In this outing, Reverend Shackleford finds himself in a difficult position as trying to marry off a daughter with stable hand manners is particularly difficult. He had managed to get his eldest daughter married to a Duke but Temperance the second eldest will be much more difficult. Temperance is a harpy and her modest receive was to kick anyone who wronged her in the shins. If he does not find someone who will teach her how to control her temper she will never get married. But he thinks he just found the right person for the job when he meets the suitably impoverished, discreet, and genteel Lady Gertrude Fotheringale. As for the eighth Earl of Ravenstone, Adam Colbourne he never thought he would ever need to get married. He hated the loveless, impersonal, and cold nature of his parents’ marriage growing up. Roan Carew grew up on the streets of Torquay as an orphan and was pressured to join the Royal Navy when he was just eleven., Through sheer bloody-mindedness, shrewdness, and determination he had risen through the ranks to become a captain. He had bought the rundown Redstone House in the wealthiest district in Torquay as an impulse buy rather than aspiring to get respect. He never thought that he would find a gorgeous thirty-three year old woman in the house.
