Tom Larcombe was introduced to fantasy books from a young age. The ones that were aimed at kids hooked him in, yet not quite well enough for him to actually remember their titles. Their draw led him to books that were aimed at the adult reader and so he found himself, at about 8, starting in on the “Thomas Covenant” series by Steven R. Donaldson and “the Hobbit”, which were followed by “The Lord of the Rings” series.

Tom’s reading tastes have never looked back, although they’ve broadened to include the occasional non fiction book and science fiction.

“Amber Uncovered” is the first stand alone novel and was released in 2017. Amber has been a child for what appears to be forever. She is unaware that she is a wizard and her magic has been protecting her by keeping her young for decades. However now her magic has determined that being young isn’t sufficient protection and she is now making up for lost time.

Charles watches over the city, looking for any budding wizards so that he can train them, or at the very least warn them, before they can get into any serious trouble. When he learns about Amber, this young looking girl that has been living with street gangs for such a long time, he also learns that there is far more about her than meets the eye.

Together, they find this old problem in the city. Amber’s parents vanished as a result of it and although it was before Charles’ time, he would still like to learn what happened to those wizards decades ago. With this new problem in the city which might be tied to the old one, they will have to get to the bottom of both or Amber just might be the next wizard that will disappear.

“Crystal Beach” is the first novel in the “Crow Hill” series and was released in 2014. What is a wizard to do when he is still getting punished for a 30 year old transgression and the country starts falling apart all around him? Michael Hart does not know, either. So he has been making it up as he goes.

One old flame has contacted him looking for some place to go. She teaches at the sole school for wizards on the continent and took responsibility for many of the students once the school was evacuated.

The country’s falling apart, the Board’s still punishing him for actions taken during his teens, and now they are showing this renewed unhealthy interest in him. He needs to be able to offer a safe haven for Rynn and all the students, however he just cannot bring himself to just ignore all the problems of those around him, either.

There are always more things to do than time to do them in and, obviously, a man with a gun is able to pose quite the serious problem. Even to a wizard.

“Farmer” is the first novel in the “Light Online” series and was released in 2019. Eddie Hunter is just about at the end of his rope, so when he stumbles upon an ad looking for people to farm in Long Term Immersion in a game called Light Online, he cannot believe his luck. Once he’s hired he enters into the game just as soon as he can.

Unbeknownst to him, however, the person who hired him is also doing illicit research on the pods which he and the other farmers are using. The research is quickly found by the AIs which monitor the game and is forcefully shut down by the company which runs Light Online.

However the code which runs these pods has been altered, and until it gets fixed Eddie and the others cannot log out. Even though the devs assure him that it will not take long to fix, Eddie is not all that sure of that himself. Eddie entered into this game to make real life money, and while he attempts to do that he finds he’s getting entangled even deeper in the game and with the people that he meets there.

However when he finds a side of the game that the previous players apparently never even considered, he knows he must find a way to stay in this game.

“Power” is the first novel in the “Wormhole Mana” series and was released in 2024. Maxwell Carter is stuck working the one job that he was able to find that would cover all his bills. The government energy research facility needs maintenance workers, after all, along with scientists. The prior forms of the research being performed her proved to be rather dangerous, so they have been working with a small version of the original while being located out in the middle of nowhere. Should they succeed, they believe that they will have this endless source of cheap energy which they’ll be able to convert to electricity and then feed to the grid.

Unfortunately for them, their shielding efforts for this project weren’t adequate and the wormhole that was generated to produce the power started spilling energy into the surrounding area. They attempted to regain containment of it while the energy spread, however the new energy began to affect the surrounding area that it was flooding. While the local wildlife started changing, and then scientists and the other workers at the labs began dying due to odd incidents which seemed to be directly related to their interests, Max figured he was finished with the research labs altogether.

He and Ron (his friend) leave the labs after they experience some pretty odd occurrences which are much too similar to a few of the online games that Max has played. Unfortunately for the both of them, the energy’s slowly expanding its area of influence while spilling out of the wormhole. They learn that its expansion is by design and Prometheus, the AI supercomputer that’s in charge of this project, is guiding the expansion of this new energy, called Mana, in this manner which means that people are going to be able to access it.

Max is not going to worry about anything but keeping his loved ones safe for now, however in order to do that means that he will need to play along with Prometheus’ games, gaining a class, and battling against the oddly mutated wildlife, and some other creatures, which the mana produces.
