The Unexpected Spy (With: Jessica Anya Blau)(2020)Description / Buy at Amazon

Tracy Walder is the perfect definition of an accidental spy. She was born and brought up in a family of California educators and loved dancing and singing in musicals when she was in high school. Tracy was ten when she decided to become a history teacher. In college, she intended to apply for a teaching job during the jobs fair, but she started chatting with the CIA recruiter whose table was empty. The recruiter turned out to be very good and by the time she left the table, she decided to make history as opposed to teaching it. While she has been somewhat shy in college, she has always been interested in world affairs. In 1997, while watching Peter Arnett and Peter Bergen interview Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan, the latter issued a fatwa. Needing to know more about that, the seed began to grow and a few weeks following the jobs fair she took the CIA polygraph test and passed.

After graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in history, she spent four years as a covert operative. Working for the Counterterrorism Center, she debriefed terrorists at black sites, thwarted terrorist attacks, and worked under assumed aliases. Tracy Walder also happens to be one of the very few women who worked in the FBI as a Special Agent and at the CIA’s Directorate of Operations. From 2000 to 2004, she worked in the Chinese Counterintelligence team at the FBI and the CounterTerrorism Center Weapons of Mass Destruction Group at the CIA. While working for the intelligence organizations, she was sent to many countries including war zones. Tracy was also the recipient of many awards from foreign intelligence offices and the CIA. When she left the CIA, she worked at the FBI Los Angeles Field Office as a Special Agent who specialized in Chinese counterintelligence operations. After her time with the FBI and the CIA, she enrolled in a teaching credential and master’s program. She created a course on foreign policy and national security over ten years and taught history too.

Tracy Walder loves to share her riveting stories working in intelligence with audiences across the world. She has become known for being one of the best at providing insights into the workings of American intelligence agencies. Making use of the many lessons she learned while working for the FBI and the CIA in addition to insider anecdotes, she provides some very unique perspectives. Her insights are better since she comes from them from the perspective of a woman in the field of special operations, which is usually dominated by males. Walder usually speaks on a wide range of topics from education, national security, counterintelligence, terrorism, foreign policy, and the role of women in intelligence and law enforcement. She has also shared her story on the likes of BBC, CBS, MSNBC, NPR, Fox and Friends, and Good Morning America in addition to several other leading programs and media outlets. Her career continues to lead her toward new adventures and she has become an inspiration to the audience. She has become known for encouraging people to take risks and challenges in life since that is what leads to a fulfilling life.

In addition to her media and literary appearances, she has offered her investigative skills to the Lost Monster Files series on the Discovery Channel. On the program, she usually investigates cases of mysterious creatures and makes use of her expertise to provide perspectives on creatures such as the legendary Chupacabra. Tracy Walder is an adjunct professor and teacher of terrorism and criminal justice. She is also a member of the board of a non-partisan and non-profit organization Girl Security. This is an organization that is all about encouraging more women to be involved in national security by getting the prerequisite skills and education for the field. Walder also sits on the Highland Park Education Foundation and on the Atalah College of Education of Chapman University. She got her history degree from the University of Southern Califronia and then proceeded to Chapman University where she got her Masters.

In 2020, Tracy Walder published her work The Unexpected Spy which would become a bestseller as an audiobook and was optioned to be made into a TV series. The work is a thrilling story of Tracy’s career in the FBI and the CIA. At Langley, she had sat in steel-walled high-security rooms as they spied on Al Qaeda members alongside George Tenet and President Bush. She went after weapons of mass destruction and tracked down chemical terrorists. She was responsible for coming up with a chemical terror chart that was wrongly used to invade Iraq. She was also involved in debriefing terrorists to get leads and followed trails across the Middle East, Europe, and North Africa. At the FBI, she worked in counterintelligence and took down some of the most notorious foreign spies ever arrested in the US. Thereafter, she left intelligence to become a teacher and mentor of young women.
