Tricia Stringer is an Australian published author.
Tricia grew up on a form in southern Australia in the country and has spent the majority of her life in various rural communities. She is now a mother of three children and has even become a grandmother.
The author spent many years in education, working as a teacher, a librarian, and an IT coordinator. She has also owned a bookshop and a post office and even worked in a different bookshop part time. She says that stories have been part of her life for as long as she can remember.
Tricia had a yearning to write stories for children that could bring the local history to life. It was this that first set her on a journey to develop her writing skills and start writing for younger readers. This was what led to her eventually writing stories for adults.
She has since written several fictional books, as well as three historical books set in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia and several rural romances. Her romance Queen of the Road was the recipient of the Romance Writers of Australia Romantic Book of the Year Award in 2013. Her book Riverboat Point was shortlisted for the same award two years later, as was Between the Vines in 2016.
She is married to her husband Daryl and together they reside on the traditional lands of the Narungga people in the Copper Coast area. She enjoys walking on the beach and being able to travel to different communities in Australia as well as overseas. She thinks it’s important to have a sense of place in her stories and is constantly working on her next manuscript.
Tricia says that she enjoys a variety of crafts and sipping on some wine when she is not busy doing other things, such as messing with computers, taking a walk on the beach to think up her next story, or reading a good book. She grew up on a farm and was always good at entertaining herself as the youngest of three children. Tricia enjoyed pushing around her cat in a pram and there was always a lot to do there, whether it was climbing trees or doing the usual farm work there.
Heart of the Country is the first book in the Flinders Ranges by Tricia Stringer. This is the first book in a historical saga that covers the lives of three Australian families. It covers several generations and tells the stories of how the Baker, Smith, and Wiltshire families made their own paths in a land that could be as unforgiving as it was beautiful.
Lives come together by love and community and then get pulled apart by things like greed and hatred but in the end, they are always close to the land that they love. In 1846, Thomas Baker has just come from England and he is not only young but alone and without a penny to his name.
Thomas would really like to make his own mark on South Australia, so he takes a job as an overseer on a sheep property. He thinks that this at last will be the chance that he is looking for. Then Thomas crosses paths with the ex-convict Septimus Wiltshire. He’s a con man who wants to make a new life for his family no matter what. This means that trouble is likely on the way.
However, Thomas is made of tough stuff and his fate may end up improving when he encounters Lizzie Smith, the spirited farmer’s daughter. It is not long before he starts picturing their future together. The only thing is that this land is different from any other type that he has come into contact with before.
It is beautiful but harsh, and is capable of breaking just about everyone bu the strongest. But when his enemy comes into it once more and the drought comes along, Thomas discovers that he might be tested nearly beyond endurance and is risking losing just bout everything that he’s worked with Lizzie for, which could include their lives. Will they be okay, or will he find that South Australia’s tougher than he thought? Read this book to find out!
Dust on the Horizon is the second book in the Flinders Ranges by Tricia Stringer. This book can be read as a sequel to the first but is a stand alone in its own right as well, so the option to read the first book before this one is up to the reader.
The year is 1881. Joseph Baker is working hard at Smith’s Ridge on his pastoral lease, in the land of the Flinders Ranges, which is known for being attractive but harsh. For Joseph, this lease is something that could give a future to his young family and to that of Binda, his loyal Aboriginal friend. Even though Joseph is very clever, it is a difficult land to work and on top of that, drought has come to the country once more.
Henry Wiltshire and his wife Catherine have newly come to the small rural town of Hawker. There they decide to open a general store and a commission business. Henry is clever and has plans to make money from the fortunes of the locals. He quickly makes his own powerful friends, but a die is cast for good when he decides to throw Binda’s family from his shop and his resulting bigotry immediately turns Joseph into an enemy.
Then Jack Aldridge crosses their path. He is an outcast and full of resentment, and he wants what Joseph and Harry have and is going to stop at nothing to try and take it. The drought continues to get bigger and the burning heat makes the land tired, and in the process, Henry, Joseph and Jack all find that their lives become entangled with each other in a way that none of them ever could have predicted, but will all of them be able to survive their final confrontation?
Readers will be transported away to the landscape of Flinders Ranges in this sweeping historical saga that will light up their imagination as they follow along with the fate of three men as well as the women that they care about, whose lives will become intertwined until nature plays a hand and potentially changes all of their destinies for good. What will happen? Read the second book in this series to find out!
