William Maz is a published author formerly of Romania and currently residing in the United States.
He was born in Bucharest, Romania. His parents were Greek and the family emigrated to the United States when William was younger.
William would attend Harvard University, graduating and then attending Mount Sinai School of Medicine and then going on to a residency at Yale.
During his years attending high school and living as an undergraduate, he came up with his own passion for the subject of writing fiction. He would obviously end up pursuing this passion and it resulted in his two debut fictional novels, The Bucharest Dossier and The Bucharest Legacy!
Maz began writing while studying the subject at Harvard, continuing to write at the New School as well as The Writer’s Studio in New York City. He would then write some more with Gordon Lish and has progressed to writing on a full time basis.
The author resides in the United States and divides his time between houses that he has in Pennsylvania as well as New York City.
William says that he first caught the writing bug when he was in middle school. He was in the seventh grade in Worcester, Massachusetts, attending public school. His English teacher decided to give them all an assignment, writing a short story that could be about any type of topic that they wanted.
William chose a topic from his own life, a story that was about three chicks that had been given to him by his mother as a gift and how they had died. While he was in high school, William decided that it was the perfect time to try writing his first novel. The book remains incomplete.
While an undergraduate attending Harvard, William studied writing, and continued to do so while attending medical school and practicing medicine. The result is his now flourishing career as a writer and his status as one of the fresh new literary voices that readers should keep an eye on!
Maz’s stated mission is to be able to use writing fiction to help to ask some of the bigger questions that people are interested in all over the world. These are questions like how does the world work, how should we spend our lives, why do countries and people do what they end up doing, and the big question of whether there is something after this life.
The Bucharest Dossier is the first book in the Bill Hefflin series by William Maz. If you have been looking for a suspenseful novel with notes of political tension and plenty of twists with a strong male character, check this story out for yourself!
Main character Bill Hefflin works for the CIA as an analyst, but even in this group he is a peculiarity. It is December 1989, and he is the head analyst when it comes to Eastern Europe.
He also happens to be the only analyst to have his own mole inside of the KGB, which is code-named Boris.
Then Boris calls for him to come to Bucharest so that he can help to create history with him. Now the analyst has to look at not just the dangers that come with a bloody revolution but something in his own personal life– how passionately he feels about the girl that was left behind.
Bill gets involved in a massacre that affects thousands. As he does, he discovers that the diplomatic immunity that he holds is not going to do as much as he would like when it comes to protecting him from the infamous secret police.
This revolution is being controlled by forces from the outside. Now Bill has to figure out whether the CIA that he knows and works for are the ones who are going to be on the correct side of history. He tries to figure out puzzles that are around the different conflicting forces that are causing people to revolt with arms while staying ahead of the assassins and that is not all.
The analyst also has to find his love and look into billions that have been stashed in offshore accounts, as well as get down to the bottom of Boris’s secret. Can he figure it out? Read this debut in the series to find out!
The Bucharest Legacy: Rise of the Oligarchs is the second book in the Bill Hefflin series by William Maz. It is a Literary Titan Award recipient as well as the winner of the Summer 2023 Pencraft Best Book Award.
Bill Hefflin is the main character in this story. The CIA agent has returned to Bucharest, and now is deeper than ever in a cauldron full of crooked politicians as well as spies.
Everyone in the CIA is rocked when a KGB defector alleges that inside the Agnecy is none other than a KGB mole. They also find out that the handler of the mole is Boris, an agent for the KGB. But the analyst eventually realizes that Boris is a code name for his long term KGB asset.
If what the defector is saying is true, Bill now understands that Boris is likely a triple agent. Not only that, but his mole is also passing false intelligence off to Bill as well as the CIA. Additionally, this has transformed Bill into the main suspect for being the Agency’s KGB mole!
This is not the most ideal scenario to be in, but Bill is trying to do what he can to show that he is innocent. Now he has come back to Bucharest, Romania, the place where he was born, in an attempt to track down Boris as well as find out who the mole really is.
The revolution was just three years ago. Now William has discovered everything from spies to politicians who are anything but on the up and up as well as a country that is run by the underground as well as newer oligarchs, and everyone wants to track down Boris.
The only trouble is that the CIA analyst has a secret that no one else knows about. That secret is that Boris is dead– and he’s been dead for more than a year. What will this information do if exposed, and can Bill keep it close to his vest forever? Or will it eventually come out and change everything? Read this book to find out!
