AG Barnett
AG Barnett is an international bestselling Amazon writer of mysteries with a cozy touch to them.

After he worked to create digital resources for the visually impaired and joined a digital supply chain startup, and played the drums enthusiastically yet erratically in a band, he fell into the charitable sector where he’s worked in online health information for more than a decade.

He is originally from North Devon, England and moved to Oxfordshire many years ago where he resides with his daughter, wife, and some ridiculous spaniels.

Barnett’s debut novel, called “An Occupied Grave”, was released in the year 2018. He writes the “Mary Blake Mysteries” and the “Brock and Poole Mysteries” series.

“An Occupied Grave” is the first novel in the “Brock and Poole Mystery” series and was released in the year 2018. A village of secrets finds that its past is lying in wait. When some mourners gather together in the village of Lower Gladdock, the grave is discovered to be occupied already. The victim’s quickly connected to a tragedy which tore the village apart five years back and gets handed to the Bexford cops to solve.

Detective Sergeant Guy Poole hopes that he can put his traumatic past behind him and just settle into his new station at Bexford. Now history threatens to raise its ugly head up again, and he’s got a murder case he has to work on. Detective Inspector Sam Brock has got a brand new recruit to show the ropes to, and he is determined to make sure this one doesn’t die. As if that was not enough of a headache, his wife’s returning home and might be on the verge of learning the lie that he has been telling to her.

Brock and Poole, this newly paired up duo, has to track the killer down before more lives are lost.

This is a well written novel and quite the page turner. Brock and Poole are both believable and likable main characters Barnett’s writing flows seamlessly while providing background information and insights with just a dash of humor.

“A Staged Death” is the second novel in the “Brock and Poole Mystery” series and was released in the year 2018. When showbiz turns ugly. The world of showbiz arrives in Bexford when the new series of Foul Murder, a hit television show, is launched. Quickly, life begins to imitate art while a murder gets committed, live on the stage.

Luckily, Poole and Brock are in the audience to take charge of the crime scene. When it becomes obvious that one of their own is actually the prime suspect, they are determined to help prove that he is innocent. And it doesn’t even matter how annoying the guy is.

The mystery in the novel is intriguing and quite engrossing. Readers found this one to be even better than the first novel, as its great to see Brock and Poole develop their fierce friendship with each other.

“When the Party Died” is the third novel in the “Brock and Poole Mystery” series and was released in the year 2018. A new exhibit’s launch at Bexford museum gets derailed when Brock and Poole find a body in their midst. With rumors about a lost treasure, a personal stake in this case, and a confusing array of suspects, they have to track down their culprit. Which won’t be at all easy.

Detective Sergeant Poole is dreading confronting his mom with the truth and he faces his second parent dropping out of his life. Detective Inspector Brock’s life is changing, and there are huge choices to be made for the future. Will they possibly be able to untangle this web of mystery to locate their killer?

Once again Barnett provides the reader with likable characters and some interesting plot twists in another entertaining read. These characters have believable relationships and interactions with other characters. It is particularly interesting to see the peeks provided into Brock and Laura’s marriage, as well.

“An Invitation to Murder” is the first novel in the “Mary Blake Mysteries” series and was released in the year 2019. Mary Blake had it all. Icon, actress, and darling of the nation, she truly was the queen of television crime drama. But then she turned fifty.

When she gets replaced on the show by some younger woman, she believes that her time in the spotlight is over. But then there is an invitation to a murder mystery party from an old buddy tosses her back into the public eye again.

After she played a detective for years, she now has to become a real one while trying to prove her own innocence with the aid of her puppy like brother and Dot, her surprisingly useful buddy and assistant.

“A Death at Dinner” is the second novel in the “Mary Blake Mysteries” series and was released in the year 2019. Mary Blake gets called to help out a former acquaintance that is being blackmailed, the very last thing she ever expected was to find herself caught in the middle of a murder case. Again.

But within just 24 hours of her starting to investigate, there is a suspicious death and the Rudolph Hotel’s staff are thrust into chaos before their huge Christmas event.

With the cops unconvinced there was any foul play, she throws herself right into the case with Pea (her brother) and Dot (her assistant), trying to track the killer down and prove themselves on this new career that they’ve got planned.

“Lightning Strikes Twice” is the third novel in the “Mary Blake Mysteries” series and was released in the year 2020. Amid rumors of the supernatural, history goes and repeats itself. Mary Blake is attempting to get her new private investigation business up and running when tragedy strikes.

Bloxley, Mary’s local village, is shocked when a murder which occurred decades prior seems to have been replicated. While tensions in the village begin to rise and there is an ever-increasing list of suspects pop up, Mary’s reputation is put on the line. Right along with her new business.

I read all the Graham Ison books of the Brock and Poole Mysteries and now I see that AG Barnett has the same DCI and DS combo only the first names are different but written after G Ison who must be well in his 90s. do these 2 authors know each other? and why did he adopt the same characters?
