The series consists of a couple of novels published in the years 2009 and 2011. The first novel of the series was titled ‘Indigo Springs’ and was published by the Tor Books publishing house. The novel deals with the life of the main character named Astrid Lethewood. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Indigo Springs is depicted as a sleepy town, where everything seems to be pretty normal. But as soon as Astrid’s father dies, things begin to change. She is forced to move into her father’s house after his death, where she discovers that her father had been practicing magic for many years. The magic flowed in the form of a blue stream, thereby leaking into her father’s house from the beneath the surface of the earth. After a little while, Astrid begins to use a liquid named Vitagua for enchanting the household items in the house of her father. Soon, she comes to realize that the liquid had some magic into it and because of it, the watch had become chanted and allowed the wearer to be at the right place and at the right time. The pendant had also become chanted and allowed the wearer to convince anyone about anything. However, as the events unfold in the town of Indigo Springs, the real potential of the Vitagua liquid gets revealed. As Astrid embarks on a journey along with her friends unwittingly, she experiences devastating power, change and disturbing future. Because of the magic, the friends had become enemies, whereas the enemies had become friends. Soon, Astrid Lethewood comes to know about several secrets from her shrouded days of childhood, which were capable of taking her to a strange destiny that she had never imagined before. The novel became highly successful among the readers and this helped it to be nominated and win the Sunburst Award in the year 2010 in the Best Adult novel category.

The second novel of the Astrid Lethewood series was published under the title ‘Blue Magic’ and was released by the Tor Books publishing house. The novel is considered as the sequel to the first novel of the series and was regarded as an astute, complex, utterly believable, highly original and eerie in nature. The plot of the novel begins from the end of the first novel, in which Astrid Lethewood had discovered the river of magical Vitagua liquid under her father’s house, situated in the small town of Indigo Springs in Oregon. The liquid has the tendency of changing everything that it touches. After some time, the secret of the magical Vitagua liquid becomes known to many people and it is believed that the world will not remain same because of the magic. One of the best friends of Astrid, Sahara gets corrupted because of the blue magic. She has developed into a cult and thinks of ruling the world. However, Astrid Lethewood tries to help the people of the world to heal from the evil magic of Sahara. The plot of the novel turns into a saga of conflicting ambitions, which causes the friends to pit against each other. The ones who hate the blue magic combine into a destructive conflagration and magic stands against magic, whereas the powers of the nations come together against the zealots, which is a small band. The novel depicted a powerful story about how the private lives of the characters changed because of magic. It gives a perfect account of a tale of a magic-filled world and its consequences on the people.
