He’s reluctant to interact with the same townsfolk that had turned their backs on him two decades ago.

But there are still questions swirling around the murder and building up. Falk feels compelled to go deeper and look into the Hadler family’s deaths. This is also because Falk shared a secret with Luke Halder, one that Aaron thought had been buried long ago. But Luke’s passing may end up leading to this secret coming to light in the Australian town. Will it come to the surface, or can Falk keep things from coming out? Read this mystery to find out!

When five women with backpacks begin walking along a muddy track, the last thing that they anticipate is that they’ll lose one of them before they come out the other side. It was all supposed to be relatively safe. They were office colleagues, going on a hike through the Giralang Ranges which are known for being rugged.

The hike also was meant to happen for a reason. It was supposed to take them out of their comfort zone at work with all of the air conditioning and the perks and try to encourage them to develop teamwork and to be more resilient. That’s the purpose, according to the corporate retreat website. Whether that actually turns out how it will be, is quickly starting to be questionable.

Then there’s Aaron Falk, a Federal Police investigator. He has a big interest in finding out what happened to the hiker that went missing, a woman by the name of Alice Russell. The main reason for his interest is the fact that Alice apparently knew some secrets. She not only knew secrets about the company that she was working for, but the people that she was actually working with too.

Four of the women have made it out and have survived to tell the tale, however. Falk must start with them if he wants to find out what happened. The women tell him about violence, fear, and trust that had been fractured during the days that they had spent surviving in the remote bushlands of Australia. As Falk investigates Alice’s disappearance, he starts to think that some of the dangers go deeper than any of them knew. Can he find out what happened and why? Read this mystery to find out!
