Abby Gaines is a historical romance and romance fiction novelist from New Zealand. The author is best known for her tender, funny romances for Love Inspired Historical and Harlequin Superromance.
She published “Whose Lie Is It Anyway” her debut novel in 2007 and now has more than two dozen novels to her name across several series and single-standing novels.

Always keen to learn new skills she is a student of the Chinese language and has experimented with women’s fiction and young adult novels.

When she is not writing her novels, she can usually be found traveling, skiing, reading, spending time with family, and cooking for friends.

Gaines was just 16 when she penned her first romance fiction novel since she loved reading and writing romance.

For some unexplained reason, her first work was a science fiction novel which she penned expecting to become a teenage publishing superstar.

While it is quite embarrassing thinking about it right now, it was what provided the springboard and got her even more interested in making a career out of writing.
Nonetheless, it would take quite a long time before she would get published as it was not until 2000 that she actively began seeking publication of her manuscripts.
Before then, she had gone to college and became an award-winning journalist where she worked for more than a decade.

At some point, Abby Gaines began getting cynical about business and felt that she needed to get into something she had always wanted for the longest time – fiction.
After writing more than half a dozen manuscripts, she sold her first novel in 2006 and it was this manuscript that was then published in 2007 as “Whose Lie Is It Anyway.”

When Abby Gaines first began writing, she attempted penning inspirational romances but just could not get it to work.

She now believes that she turned out too preachy and for this reason, she switched back to the sweet end of the market, which had a preference for secular stories.

Similar to many novelists who got into romance fiction, Gaines first fell in love with Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer, which is what got her into romance.

It was from the works of such novelists that she learned that even though women and men had clearly defined roles, when it came to witty, clever dialogue, they could be equals, who could use their gender strengths to wrestle with each other.
While she has found a lot of success writing romance, she has also gone back to writing some inspirational works.

Most of her works explore the theme of being loved just the way you are which probably is a reflection of her faith and God’s love for humanity.

“Her So-Called Fiance” by Abby Gaines is a riveting romance fiction novel that introduces Sabrina Merritt. She happens to be the youngest in her family and is the half-sister of Cynthia and Megan.

Her father is Jonah Merritt who so loved her mother that when she died all his love was transferred to Sabrina. Together with her half-sisters, they had done their best to protect her since she was not the smartest and was not a lawyer like the other two.
All she had going for her was her beauty which she had a good chance of making good of. She had recently had a good run in the Miss Georgia Pageant and another round on Miss USA but was kicked out in the first round.

The judge in the latter had made a crass comment about her thighs that had made headlines all over the US. While Sabrina knew she was beautiful, the comments began to get to her.
Upon arriving back home she meets Jake Warrington who she had broken up with half a decade earlier and had promised to hate forever.

Abby Gaines’ “Her Secret Rival” is the story of the middle daughter of the Merritt family, Megan Merritt.

At present, she is the only one who is employed at the Merritt Law Firm. She is in charge of the family law department, where she has made it a wild success beating just about every division.
Due to her success, she has been trying to convince her father to make her overall boss when he leaves the firm due to failing health. Cynthia her older sister is on the path to becoming a judge, which means she is not interested in heading the firm.
Sabrina has never been interested in the firm but while Megan is the only one interested, it is not going to be easy to convince her father.

She has been working on a divorce between Barbara and Theo Hoskins and knows that if she can convince the latter to bring a significant part of his business to the firm, she might just get the promotion.

But first, she needs to make sure Theo does not lose his shirt in the divorce, and in this, she is going up against Prescott Palmer Associates’ best in Travis Jamieson, who has a reputation for being very sleazy.

“Her Surprise Hero” by Abby Gaines is another brilliant work in the “Those Merritt Girls” series of novels. The lead is Cynthia Merritt who has risen to the position of Attorney General in Georgia.

At the novel’s opening, she has been exiled to Stonewall Hollow, Atlanta by her father due to an incident in a courtroom closet. Her father believes she will be better off as a state court judge rather than as an attorney general.
She came into the small town believing that she was going to have an easy time overseeing cases. However, she soon finds that things are not so easy.

Even worse, Ethan Granger who is working with juvenile offenders in community service is determined to kick her out and he usually gets what he wants.

The townsfolk are on the side of their crackerjacker rancher but it is not long before Cynthia wins him over. Nonetheless, Ethan does yet fully trust the city slicker who he thinks is still too new in town for one to know her well.
