Academy of Beasts is a series of reverse harem books by USA Today Bestselling author of erotica, romance, paranormal and Polyamorous Reverse Harem books Becca Fanning. All the novels are narrated from a first-person perspective and a packed with intrigue, action, and some nice chemistry you can handle.

Academy of Beasts I
The first book in the Academy of Beasts series introduces us to Fiona, who lost her everything in a fire tragedy before she was whisked away to the Academy for Shifters. The story is narrated from the first-person point of view from Fiona’s perspective.
The book introduces us to some characters and the academy itself, and it’s full of mystery and some bit of anger. Fiona finds herself surrounded by handsome shapeshifters, all of who look at her with primal hunger. The author gives the reader a variety of shifters in her debut book, carefully watching the heroine who’s surrounded by mystery.

It’s to be noted that Academy of Beasts is a reverse harem genre. And just like a harem is comprised of one man meeting multiple making out with multiple women, a reverse harem features one female protagonist with multiple men. Reverse harem doesn’t place a woman in a situation where she must pick her one true love at the end of the story. Instead, the woman doesn’t choose- but she gets them all and lives happily ever after.

The reverse harem genre is rooted in Japanese Otome games and anime and later became popular in western romance fiction.

The world-building of a reverse harem genre surpasses the heroine’s origins and brings the heroine into an atmosphere where the polyandrous relationship is accepted.

Reverse harem plot and character archetypes follow the same themes as seen in most romance books. Like in a normal romance story where the two main characters meet and get a strong connection, the heroine in this genre meets all her men and experience all these feelings. Entering into such a relationship is something voluntary that all members of harem have to agree upon.

The men’s love towards the female is enough to get them to all agree, and sometimes they are known in advance that they will share a woman, and in some stories, they all simply want the girl, as is in the case of the Academy of Beasts series.

The plots within the reverse harem genre often have a fantasy or paranormal elements that place the characters in a world where such dynamic is easier for the reader to accept. They also have elements of action, mystery, adventure, and court intrigue, and oftentimes, there’s a crisis that only the heroine and the heroes can solve. This subgenre also includes more sensual and sexier adult romances.

Academy of Beasts II
This is the second book in the Academy Beasts series. It’s a continuation of the first book and will keep you hooked from the beginning to the end. Fiona’s home has been destroyed, her parents killed, and this makes her life miserable. She’s left with no option but to look for ways to survive at the Academy.
Just when Fiona thinks she has started making friends, she is surprised when she finds out that they gossip immediately after turning her back. Her life turns upside down, and those who are close to her are holding secrets. Are the people hiding the secrets trying to keep her safe or just exploiting her?

In this book, Fiona is still trying to figure out what’s going on. She’s aware that there are secrets that the boys know some secrets. She’s doing her best to fit in the academy, but it seems someone is trying to ruin her life. Is Fiona safe at the academy? Be sure to find a lot of action, drama, entertainment, and surprises throughout the story.

It starts a little bit slower than the first novel, and more suspense keeps building. Each hint Fiona has raised more questions, and the people who seem to know what’s happening are not willing to tell her. As suspense builds, Fiona tries to find answers to her questions, but she seems to have very little luck getting the answers.

In this book, we explore the characters more as there are more hints to the questions in the first book. The story leaves the reader with more secrets that will be uncovered in the next installment. The book is well written with tension rising and suspense storyline and engaging characters.

There are lots of twists and drama that will keep the reader hooked to the last page. The chemistry between the characters is terrific and likable. The intrigue in the story is so exciting to leave readers wanting more. Becca Fanning does an excellent job of developing characters in this wonderful story. For anyone who is looking for a short story, this is a perfect book for you.

Academy Beasts III
In this third installment, things get intense between Fiona and the ‘council of boys,’ and she gets goosebumps whenever she comes near any of them. In the school of shifters, she can feel all eyes on her, and the fact that she isn’t sure whether the people around her have the right intentions frightens her even more. What can she do when the attention poses more danger?

She also comes across some danger severally, and the boys aren’t taking this lightly. Many changes are taking place, and Fiona seems to have no idea how to handle them.

This means she has to get more time alone with one of the boys than she expected and is ready for. Like the earlier books, the story is narrated from Fiona’s point of view. The book is fast-paced with lots of suspense that keeps the reader turning pages. With a few pages, the story can be read in a single sitting. The action and suspense that continue in this installment keep the reader engaged right from the first page to the last
