The author has also been featured as a speaker and has hosted a TV special. Collins is married to Kathy Collins who works at Ouachita Baptist University as the chair of the education department, and the two have two grown sons. A Date with Death A Date with Death is the first novel In the President Service series authored by the award winning American author Ace Collins. This book follows the epic adventures of Detective Helen Meeker who entitled to report to the president during the challenging times of the World War II.
She has less than a month to stop the execution of an innocent pastor who has confessed to being a Nazi spy. While the case has impactful consequences to unraveling a black operation ring operating on British and American soil, Helen manages to solve a hostage crisis on a bank robbery gone wrong, discovers an explosive casket and is introduced to a dead English hero who appears much alive.
The fate of two prominent leaders and that of an innocent girl depend upon Helen before Wilbur Shelleyer faces the death squad, and Roosevelt and Churchill meet for a private meeting in upstate New York. Set in the backdrop of the Second World War, A Date with Death combines mystery, adventure, romance and action in a intriguing tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you questioning, “Do I save the innocent man facing death squad or the leader of the free world?” which of these two lives is more important? Even though the answer to this dilemma is revealed at the end of this well-woven novel, the author’s adventure and action will continue fast paced throughout the entire series. The series debut novel touches on various interesting themes. For instance, we see a woman given a role that a man would only fit during the time in which it is set. Apart from being a beautiful escort to visitors from other nations, Helen also works as a detective saving peoples’ lives.
The main plot, the sub plots, and the characters are well detailed, and the author has set the tone of intrigue and suspense. The main character, Helen is a hot shot detective who always delivers and gets her job done. She gives an impression that, “if you men cannot handle this problem, it’ll be my pleasure to do it.” She is devoted to her nation and doesn’t allow anything to come in between herself and service to the nation. A good example is when two men fall for her, but instead of getting herself into romantic fracases she first ignores them for the sake of the national security. The writing and the descriptions made in this first series novel are fantastic, and in most cases, the descriptions are mostly humorous. If you fancy classic cars and trucks, you will appreciate the description made to each of the vehicle mentioned in the narrative.
Helen’s work with her FBI operative Henry Reese is quite professional, and at times, it is cleared that the two are old friends who enjoy working together and sharing ideas with each other and one would like to see some romance develop between the two agents. But a hint of jealousy is evident when the beautiful woman chooses to act as a hostess and a date, during the visit of British Corporal Nigel Andrews’ to the United States. The corporal did not seem like a man who was admired by his government- a man who should have been retired so that he returns to his home. He did not appear to have respect for the dead commanding officer, Reginald Fister.
Finding out that Fister had survived the German gunfire which he was subjected to while at the same time allowing his men to escape was a shocking change of events and furthermore Reggie goes ahead to convince Helen to Mary him. One of these two men is a traitor- and can Helen discern who the traitor is? Will she find out the truth so that she can free the pastor from the impending execution? In search of solutions, Helen finds herself racing against time through acutely distressing events in which her brilliant mind and courage will be tested.
The Dark Pool
This is the second book In the President’s Service written by Ace Collins. In this book, the main character, Helen finds herself racing against time to save both her partner and her beloved sister. To make things more complicated, the behind the scenes experiments pose a threat to the western civilization. From the White House in the United States to the secret laboratory of a fiendish scientist and the foreign war zones, a spreading evil closer overthrowing all that which is good and will Helen be able to stem the evil tide or will she be ultimately swept away in its shadowy undercurrent?
The second novel is tension filled, as Helen has two people whom she treasures the most and both of them need saving. Her personality is quite enjoyable as she fights her demons to maintain her composure to handle the problem without allowing her emotions or thought to control. Helen’s sister is taken hostage by two hire goons while on the other hand her partner is taken captive by an unknown assailant and no one knows his current location or the reason why he was abducted. The ending of this brilliant second installment will leave you with a cliff hanger and with the urge to read more and more which is offered in the third novel in the series. If you like espionage, world war narratives with witty detectives and some hints of romance, then In the President’s Service is the series for you.
