One of the successful mystery series written by author Alana Knight is known as the Rose McQuinn series. This series is comprised of 8 books in total. The debut novel of this series is titled as ‘The Inspector’s Daughter’, which was first published in the year 2000 and then again in the year 2014 by the Amazon Digital Services in the form of a Kindle Edition. The plot of the book revolves around the detective investigator named Rose McQuinn, who is depicted as the daughter of Inspector Faro from another mystery series written by author Knight. As the novel begins, Rose McQuin is shown as returning to Edinburgh from America in the year 1895. She appears to be saddened by the death of her child and the disappearance of her husband Danny, who used to work for the Pinkerton Detective Agency, located in Arizona. After grieving for a little while, Rose decides to take on a new career. She agrees to investigate about the reason behind the strange behavior of her childhood friend Alice’s husband. Initially, the case appears to be an adulterous one, but the investigations of Rose McQuinn suggest her that there is something more sinister into the case. Later, she learns about the brutal murder of one of the servant girls whom she knew. In spite of all the difficulties and obstacles, Rose appears to be totally determined to find out the truth. But in doing, she goes on to put her own life in danger. Rose makes a few friends over time, who help her to solve the case and find her missing husband.

The 2nd book in the Rose McQuinn series written by novelist Alana Knight was released under the title ‘Dangerous Pursuits’. It was published initially in the year 2003 and later in the year 2013 as a Kindle Edition. As the story of the book begins, Rose McQuinn is shown as walking towards her home located on the Arthur’s Seat. Suddenly, she comes across the dead body of a lady in the ruins near the St. Anthony’s Chapel. Rose informs a local constable and asks him to stay there while she goes on to take the help of the police. But, when she returns to the crime scene, she neither finds the dead body nor the police constable. Both of them seem to have disappeared without any trace. However, the police do not appear to believe her story, including her lover and Detective Sergeant named Jack Macmerry from the Edinburgh City Police. In spite of all this, Rose McQuinn continues with her stand and believes that a murder was committed at that place. Eventually, she decides to take the matters into her own hands and goes on to investigate the case in her own way. It appears that by deciding to do so, she might have turned herself into a deadly game of dangerous pursuits.
