Alannah Rogers
Alannah Rogers is the pen name of a Canadian mysteries author. Rogers is best known for her Beatrice Young Cozy Cat Mysteries that stars sleuth cats with exceptional abilities and a main character who have had an eventful life.
This talented author often took trips from her Nova Scotia home to New Hampshire and Maine when she was younger. Growing up in a small town and these trips influenced her choice of settings throughout her debut series.
Currently, Rogers lives in Toronto with her husband and two cats, Raccoon and Mixtli.

The Counterfeiter-Catching Cat
The Counterfeiter-Catching Cat comes first in the Beatrice Young Cozy Cat Mysteries. This story stars Beatrice Young, a sixty-two-year-old woman, and her cats, Hamish and Lucky. Beatrice owns the Cozy Cate Café and enjoys serving the tourists who visit her small town of Ashbrook.

It is autumn, and Beatrice is busy serving coffee to her customers when Hamish sniffs a fake note. Beatrice is furious that anyone would hand her a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill but even more curious to find its source.

Could there be someone in this town making fake money, or did the bill come with the tourists? What about the other strange things happening in Ashbrook, like Jordan Clark’s disappearance?

Beatrice puts her detective cap on, determined to uncover the truth. She has the sheriff’s support, her ex-husband and best friend Matthew, and her cat Lucky. When Beatrice finds a link between Jordan’s complicated past, his disappearance, and the fake bill, her curiosity pushes her to dig even further, and she continues unaware of the dangerous killer watching her every step.

Fortunately, her feline friends do a lot to keep her safe. While the cats don’t talk, their caring actions help Beatrice get out of trouble, uncover the killer, and restore this small town to its former glory.

One of the things you will love about this book is the adorable cat sleuths who can differentiate between an original and fake bill and smell a criminal out of his hiding place. The older amateur detective also gives the story an edge.

It is amazing how Beatrice and her ex relate even though they are no longer married. The hint of romance brings just the right amount of sunshine, and you can only hope that it will grow in the next installment.

Most of the book focuses on the complex murder mystery, and you will enjoy following Beatrice as she uncovers one secret after another on her quest to unravel the truth.

The Counterfeiter-Catching Cat is a captivating and good-humored mystery story with characters that will stay in your mind. If you are a cat or pet lover, you will enjoy meeting Lucky and Hamish on their adventures and seeing how they perform beyond their owner’s expectations.

Beatrice is also such a joy, and while she makes all the common amateur mistakes in her detective work, her cats are there to save the day. Mix all these with an incompetent sheriff and a non-existent police department, and you have yourself a page-turner. The cast also includes some young people who come with their unique set of problems. Everything from the pacing to the tone is done right, making this an intriguing book that you will not want to put down.

The Purrfect Halloween Prank
The Purrfect Halloween Prank comes fourth in the Beatrice Young Cozy Cat Mysteries. It is almost Halloween, and Beatrice spends a good time at the café thinking about the perfect costumes for her three cats, Lucky, Hamish, and Petunia. However, when a bomb almost blows her car, Beatrice’s attention is drawn to another direction. There is no way that Beatrice is going to rest without uncovering the person behind the bomb.

Therefore, she sets to work, hoping that she will track the perpetrator before more damage is done. Can Beatrice solve the case before Halloween? Will the sheriff be any help this time around?

Beatrice’s first suspect is the Halloween prankster who has been terrorizing the town for a few years. All efforts to catch him had gone unrewarded, but Beatrice hopes that she can accomplish what the sheriff had failed to do before.

If the bomb has anything to do with the prankster, it is clear that he is not afraid to engage in dangerous tricks that could injure and kill someone. As if all this is not enough for her to handle, this amateur detective has to prepare herself for her first date, something she hasn’t done in decades, and get ready for the upcoming holiday. Can Beatrice handle it all?

Will the sheriff offer assistance now that he is busy dealing with the mayor’s death?
While this book is fourth in the series, you can still enjoy it as a standalone. You will love following Beatrice throughout the investigation and seeing how she connects the dots while interviewing different people in her little town.

The more she uncovers the prankster’s evil actions, the more determined she gets to catch him. Why would he even think that he can get away with setting a homemade bomb, slashing tires, and destroying other people’s property?

A lot is also happening in her personal life, and there is no telling how things with Matthew will end in this book. The cats are always a joy to interact with, and it is incredible how much these little creatures are able to accomplish.

The Purrfect Halloween Prank is another exciting addition to this series. It is amazing seeing how Beatrice’s life has changed over time. After staying off the dating scene for years, she is just getting warmed up for this phase, and you can feel the excitement through the pages. Her investigative skills also seem to have improved, and her fur babies are always there to protect her.

If you love cozy mystery stories, you will find this book irresistible. This is a quick read. The book is about 70 pages, so you can enjoy it all in one sitting.
